Re: Credit Card Regrets

I don't have any real regrets. I have been pretty selective.  Each of my cards were applied for a partiular pupose.  The only card that I suppose is a little pointless is the Blue Nile, I took advantage of a 0% APR Offer to get my wife's engagement ring.  I used it for my wedding band and a pair of pearl earrings for my wife using a 0% APR offer again, but it it really doesn't get used.  I got one of those "use it or lose it" notices earlier this year so had my wife pick out an affordable piece of jewelery that she liked (she picked a bracelet) and then just PIF.

I don't know how much of a hit it would be to close a 9K CL card, but figure it is best not to close any accounts or open any new accounts until we go to get our mortgage.

Not doing much traveling right now, the Marriott card and Airline cards aren't doing me any good, I was happy that AMEX gave credits on the Delta Platinium due to the COVID.  I may make some changes at some point just because having so many travel oriented cards and not traveling doesn't make sense but won't make any changes until the mortgage stuff is done later this year.

Re: Credit Card Regrets

Paypal Credit. Got it because it was a hidden line and never used it. 🤦‍♀️

Barclay Ring (original) - I liked it because it was a simple, low interest rate card. But I prefer cash back and don't carry balances so it was pointless for me. Still liked it, though.

NavyFed CLOC - interest rate is too high for me to actually consider using it but I like that it comes with its own checks!

Bethpage PLOC - same as above... 🤦‍♀️

Overstock. What was I thinking? 🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

Finally hit the 800 club. I don’t see any other credit cards that I want. Guess I’ll garden.

Re: Credit Card Regrets

Barclay Ring MC never lived up to it's community side and the real use of the card and Barclay caused me to hesitate. Carried the card for four years and closed it a little while back while culling the herd.

Re: Credit Card Regrets

I applied for the American Express Cash Magnet as my first non-AU credit card. I immediately wished I had applied for the Citi Double Cash card instead.

I now have the Citi Double Cash card, and all my AMEX has going for it is the occasional offers that work well for me. Well that and the high credit limit... $500 is kind of hard to do large purchases with. I'll likely do a product change on my AMEX to the Blue Cash Everyday or Blue Cash Preferred card when I am eligible, so it isn't a huge loss. Just means I have to wait a year...

Sportmans Guide Visa by Comenity.

I thought I was being slick with the SCT but the Visa is a HP.

I closed it after a year as Comenity ain't the best.   Seriously- paper based rewards?

Re: Credit Card Regretsafter

I got the Kroger MC 3 months ago, used it to get the $100 opening rebate offer, and then sockdrawered it because I have AMEX BCP for 6% on groceries.

Bad mistake applying for it. $10000 limit and SDed.

I simply have no use for it. Let US Bank cancel for non-use in a couple of years.

$10g is a nice pad to SD for most.   It's more bearable at that amount.

Re: Credit Card Regretsafter

I’ve since closed it but I got a student card at a local CU when I already had two cards and two solid years of credit history (no unsecured or subprime cards). It never grew past $1,000, had no rewards and was generally wasting my time. As soon as I closed it, the CU launched a wave of brand new, better products and I got one at $10,000 SL. Go figure.

Re: Credit Card Regretsafter

My regret is accepting the pre-approval offer from Comenity/Wayfair card. After one month they announced they are cancelling all the cards. Had I known, I would not have applied for it. It is too late.
