Re: Credit Card tricks: to share or not to share?

I really don't see how this thread is disrespectful. If OP wrote "I know some awesome tricks that you don't. like Jon snow, you know nothing! , suckers! And I hope your dog dies!", then it would be disrespectful.

I agree with longtimelurker and lhcole on this. It was a simple polling question and there was nothing disrespectful about it.

Re: Credit Card tricks: to share or not to share?

Back on topic...

I think it's a blessing/curse situation that the threads on the forum are Google searchable.  If we could just chat amongst ourselves it would be 'doable' for us to share our tricks of the trade, but it seems Google is hard-wired into this site, which shares our entire collection of conversations/threads with the entire world.

If you actually do a Google search on "Capital One EO", the very first results (literally) are from the myFICO forums.

It would be nice if there was a part of the board that would only be accessable to registered members, and would not show up on Google searches. (Admins... hint, hintSmiley Very Happy

This being said, I'm not one to 'hoard' information, and I have a feeling the folks that run myFICO would object to a 'members only' thread for this very reason - part of the reason for the forum's existence I'm sure is for "information sharing".

It is a nice thought, though... Smiley Happy

Re: Credit Card tricks: to share or not to share?

I can't say that I know any "tricks" per say, but I have the things that work for me.  I sometimes share them and sometimes don't.  I believe everyone has to "find their own way" in the credit card game to an extent.  Take what you learn in the forums and expand on your own to other cards.  If it works, it works.  If it doesn't find another way.  There is always going to be something that some people know and others dont.

+1

The few "tricks" I have (all of which are common-knowledge here) I've tried to share with family members, but after I'm finished explaining (with excitement!) how "great" my method is, they just look at me with glossed-over eyes and their expression says it all... they honestly couldn't care less.

So, it obviously is very much a YMMV kind of thing.  What works great for one person, somebody else (like my family) will just see as a bunch of extra steps for a few dollars saved - and hardly worth the effort (to them).

That's OK... as long as my "tricks" work for me, that's my primary concern.  Smiley Happy

I don't know any tricks, but if I did discover one I would share it with all of you.

While I understand and appreciate the reticence for many to keep "secrets and tricks" non-public, I personally don't share the sentiment.  Maybe, that's because I've never been creative or smart enough to unearth something truly profound, at least not in the CC rewards spectrum.

For me, whatever "secrets or tips" I may have, whether it originated from me or from other sources, I will share freely.

Re: Credit Card tricks: to share or not to share?

I have come to the conclusion that even on myFICO forums, there are people who are mentally not ok. This was a simple question. How this got turned around is quite simply, psycho. LMAO! it's ok, we all need help @ one time or another in our lives. it's just an online forum. NO one here can hurt you or make your life miserable as to not share tips and tricks. The only person that can do it is ___. So, let's smile, and understand that if someone doesn't want to openly share something, there is something called a PM, which they can be asked to send via that method. If not, there is more than one place to get the info. I'd bet, if someone here knows a tip and trick, they probably got it fromt somewhere else out there in www land. And we've been using SEARCH ENGINES for how long? Even before Google blew up in 2004. "Welcome...You've Got Mail!"

Re: Credit Card tricks: to share or not to share?

I found a way to get a $30,000 increase on any Chase card with a soft pull.  Don't private message me or ask me how.  I am not sharing.  They might give me a CLD.  I did tell my dead grandpa how to do it.  Besides, I don't come here to learn.  I visit because I like to say "congrats!" on secret credit maneuvers that have never benefitted me.
