So I just found out that I am permanently banned from myfico forum for posting a link to here that has the list of credit unions compiled by BobWang (thank you for the list by the way).
I hope you don't mind that I shared the link. I really don't want to get banned from this site either
I was just trying to help a fellow member at myfico find out about some awesome credit unions but obviously its against their policy to share this site because it's considered a "credit repair site"
I thought I was doing a good deed helping someone but I guess the MODS at myfico really hate creditboards and don't want myfico members to know about this wonderful community.
I do not care why the author was banned for, but does MyFico hate Credit Boards.
I am not a big fan of LKH/Breeze (owners) junk site, but rarely they post valuable information, why not to use it?
We have to remove links to sites (including useful sites) which also have links to credit repair sites BECAUSE the myFICO forums are run by (duh) FICO. Since FICO is a credit-oriented business, they could get into serious trouble if there is even the appearance of promoting "credit repair", in the sense of helping people dodge their debts and so forth. By serious trouble, we're talking legal trouble.
There is something called the Credit Repair Organization Act that governs credit repair organizations. FICO is not subject to this act, but if it started doing things that look credit repair-ish, they would be. Therefore, a great deal of care is taken to avoid any hint of advocating these sites, and this includes allow links to sites that mention or have ads by CRO's.
And my eyebrows go up a bit about the claim (which I understand that you're not necessarily believing) that someone was perm banned for posting a link. If this was a one-time thing, we just remove the link and post and/or pm an explanation of why this can't be done.
Now if someone persists over and over and over in doing such things, or if they have continually violated other TOS (terms of service) here, that's a whole 'nother thing.
I know that when I used to get in trouble at school, my report to my parents generally went something like "The teacher is mean." I would rarely provide the details of what exactly happened. At least, not willingly.
eta: forgot to add, the mods don't hate CB. I don't, anyway. I pull on my hip boots and drop in there maybe twice a year, and I don't hate it. I find it confusing, chaotic, full of annoying pop-up ads placed automatically by the site owners, and full of misinformation, rudeness, and open hostility (with nuggets of useful stuff, of course), but I don't hate it. That's just me.
eta again: I italicized the portion of wmarat's post that was the quote from the other member at CB in hope of making it easier to see what part was wmarat's and what was the quote. I wish the indent function here would work properly.
(got tired of editing, so I figured I'd make an additional post instead)
We do remove links. But you're free to talk about CB. Just no links, including (sadly) to the famous database.
We mods sometimes get tangled up on this ourselves. I do, anyway.
I can confirm what HTSU wrote. I've posted links to CB once or twice and links was just removed with no actions against me.
Here's my two-cents as a former (or maybe still current but inactively-posting) CreditBoards member....
When I first started repair in 2007, google searches led to forums like CreditBoards, CIC, and others. I started my quest for better credit on CB all the while coming here for reports. I would read all sorts of threads and followed their advice on repair. The advice on there never would be allowed on here because most of it involved disputing even if it was a legitimate debt and they advocated not paying your debts in most cases. But I took their advice and my credit was trashed for it and resulted in lower scores, increased collection activity, baddies updating, etc. Eventually someone on CB or elsewhere suggested I check out myFICO forums and have been here ever since.
Hauling posted what needed to be said already. MyFICO is held at a different standard than CreditBoards. Because of the Credit Repair Organizations Act and because myFICO provides reports, there legally has to be more moderation in terms of repair. That's why you'll see posts edited or removed when the poster advocated illegal or unethical repair like disputing accurate accounts, backdooring reports, bribing CSRs for account removals, or anything unethical that results in report manipulation like bumpage (can they say "bumpage" in CB?). Because CB and others offer unethical advice in many of their threads, links to CB and others like it are removed. The poster in question in the original post was banned after many, many warnings both publicly and privately, though I'm sure much of what he did is commonplace in CB.
With regards to posting links, links are quite OK to post within myFICO. They just [can't] be linked to a forum or website that promotes unethical repair like CB or to a private company, like a credit repair organization. Links to non-repair sites are most certainly allowed like to Flyertalk, cardratings, and all of the credit sites out there.
Many posters are both on myFICO and CB. Most of the posters on CB are great and offer sound advice. It becomes unfortunate when a minority carry the unethical advice on CB over to here through links or advocation. When it happens, myFICO legally has to stop it.
I don't have a bad thing to write/say about anyone there.
Almost tempted to check it out... butttttttttttt, I've got better things to do with my time.
Ummmmmmmm creditboards doesn't have popup ads. You need to scan your computer.

Oh, you're right, my bad!
They don't have popup ads. They used to have that ad automatically inserted as post #2 on every single thread. (Sort of a pop-out ad, as it were.) It doesn't seem to be there any more. Thumbs up!
I think they did away with the ad-themed 2nd post, but they switched to embedding the ads into the first post instead...if it matters any.
