I agree with OP's strategy. If he/she feels that reading this forum triggers negative behavior then by all means... it's best to stay away. This is why alcoholics don't (or at least shouldn't) frequent bars.
I've definitely curtailed my visits on here since I found myself apping for cards I don't need and really don't want. (I currently have 16 open lines). Rock bottom for me was apping for a completely useless FBNO card in January. This summer when most of my cards hit the one year mark, I will be closing many of them. My goal is to be down to 7-8 cards which is MORE than enough for me.
Good luck OP with your credit journey!
Indeed.
When I first got here, I was like, "I WANT ALL THE CARDS!!!" But, that's not very realistic. It might be good from a utilization standpoint, but having 10 rewards cards will be pointless because I will never have enough spend to really build up rewards. Rotating them to ensure usage would be a PITA. And my income, while decent, and perhaps even better since I don't have a family, wouldn't really support the possible exposure I'd be opening myself (and lenders) up to, at least if I want good limits on all those cards.
So, my plan while gardening is to identify my wishlist cards, and cut them by half. I think I'm already cutting Discover out of the picture. I realized I only wanted this card "just because" but getting the pre-qual for the Freedom made me realize that one is probably going to be a better card for me when the time is right (similar structure/rewards as Discover, accepted more places, and more opportunities in terms of other cards with a bank I'd have a history with later on.) Gardening, even if it's somewhat thrust upon me at present due to my history, gives me the benefit of being able to reflect on and refine my plan.
I do understand OP's sentiment, though. Knowing how hard it is for me to stay in the garden, I can only imagine what it must be like for someone whose chances of getting the cards they want being high to stay in.
But, you do what you have to do to stay sane. When the plan isn't working any more, you formulate a new one!
We'll miss you, lethargic! Good luck!
This whole repair thing can also be a trap in some way. Like anything .. focus on it too much and it
can take over more of your life like its supposed to.
You have probably seen this in ppl with nutrition, bodybuilding, gaming and the such like.
Gardening? Did someone say GARDENING?
I've been here a while, rebuilt my credit, added enough cards that I didn't want any more and the gardening just happened. No doubt I'll add something at some point. I'm not averse to adding another card or two if they match my needs. I have a diverse, if small, collection and just don't want to track another card without a good reason.
I gets easier as the months pass by. Every now and then I get very frustrated and I seek small wins. A SP CLI here, a credit dispute there, work on DW's CR's and scores and and when It's really tough, I come on here and vent about it. The urge does pass and the months tick away. Soon enough all the baddies will be gone and I'll reach the top of my score bucket which will hold me back for years to come with my BK. I will however be in the 700's and thats all I care about right now. Good enough to get the credit I might need. I'm 9 months post disch and my TU is 8pts away from 700. I never would have imagined that and I certainly would not be where Im at if it werent for the people in this forum and the Grand Ole Garden ![]()
It's called Willpower.

Today I woke up wondering, why did app for DC yesterday? I had been gardening for 3 months, but after this relapse I've realized that if I keep coming to this board, I'll never be able to commit to gardening the way I used to when I started my credit journey (4 years between apps). I love you all. Goodbye!
boy can I relate, and Im not too far behind you
Best of luck to you. People need breaks from things from time to time. Even from things they like or love. It's a decision you've made because you think it will be better for you. Nothing wrong with that. I want to wish you luck and prosperity.
