Graduating in December 2008 with AAS in Early Childhood

Hey All,

Hearts here...  I will be graduating soon with my AAS in ECE and I do not want to continue to do in home daycare, and because of issues with my back don't want to go into a center environment, so I need some ideas on how I can make my degree work for me in other fields.  Any ideas?

Most people I work with would qualify as being in early childhood.  Seriously maybe Social Work and family consuling.

Thanks Marty,

That is a good idea as I do love the kids and want to start a maternity home for pregnant teens.

Re: Graduating in December 2008 with AAS in Early Childhood

Wmarat,

Being the parent of a daughter who got pregnant in her senior year of high school after being told that she should wait til she got married and had finished school and done everything that she wanted to do before settling down, I realized that it was her life.  I am a firm believer that she could have taken another route, but she has been blessed to have a supportive family and church community who don't judge her based on what has happened in her life because Jesus forgives all sin and so we must do the same.  I didn't judge her and throw her out and call her names or any of those things because she is my flesh and blood and I love her.  Many of the girls who will be a part of this home will learn to love themselves and their child, they will be built up and given confidence and self-esteem, they will be taught christian values, how to love their bodies and not give them away to some jerk who says that he loves them.  Many of the girls that I have already mentioned this to have family members or they themselves wish there had been a program like this for them when they got pregnant.  They were all put out or beaten nearly to death by boyfriends and their families turned their backs on them.  Is this what our society is supposed to be about?  I don't think so.  We must show them love and concern so that they don't turn it inward or on their child or leash their hopelessness and rage onto a world that is not prepared to deal with the consequences.  So, everyone can have their own opinion about teen pregnancy, but one day it will happen to someone you know, will you judge them and let them down because of what you believe?   Just asking...

Fish, thanks for the support...

Kate,

Hopefully that is not what wmarat meant and if it seems that I am mad about what he said, then I apologize to him/her for it, however, I am very passionate about those kids and that is a comment that we hear all the time that they are against teen pregnancy and they should be taught to not get pregnant.  No matter how much you talk about, again, they will make the choice and it hurts when you have talked til you are blue in the face and it seems that they have gone against you, but it is not about you, its about them.  We can teach them the value of life, choices and decisions, consequences and being accountable.

Not sure what an AAS is (associates degree?).  If you love kids and want to work with them, how about going for a BS and teaching?

myhearts, i think your hard work and dedication will make the world a better place.  i hope you're very proud of yourself.

my sister is a teacher and works with behavioral disorder high school kids.  you and her probably have a lot in common.  her kids put her through the wringer, but she loves them and wouldn't want another job.
