I bought an ACER laptop in 2008 with WIndows Vista Home Premium. I later bought Windows Vista Ultimate Edition from Best Buy to upgrade. Years later, my computer crashed and do not have the Vista Ultimate Upgrade Software anymore. I received a Microsoft Windows Anytime Upgrade disk. Fortunately, I was able to install that to get windows Ultimate back on my laptop. But now I've come to a problem...I get a message to activate windows. I do not have an activation key.
I called Microsoft. They are unable to give me an activation key. Says, I need to contact BestBuy or Acer. I am lost!! How can BestbBuy or Acer help me?
Somewhere in the documentation you got with the laptop or possibly under the laptop, there should be a license key. The upgrade should have had a license as well. I also sent you a PM.
The license key under my laptop isn't working for the version of windows I upgraded to. I don't have access to the Windows software that I bought a few years ago. I left it behind when I moved out of state. Thank you!
I don't know anything about windows but I can help boost your FICO score
DI, do you have the original WIndows Vista Home Premium restore disk that came with your laptop? I was unsure about which disk you left behind, the original install disk or the Vista Ultimate disk. If you are ok with formatting your drive and losing your files, then reload WIndows Vista Home Premium and activate it with the key that is labeled on your laptop.
What type of Windows Anytime Upgrade disk do you have? Is it the Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade disk?
Don't bother with Best Buy, they just sold you the laptop. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you may not get any help with Acer. But it won't hurt to call Acer's technical support and asked then if they could send you the original restore disk if you've misplaced it.

No, the computer came with a buiIt-in restore program. Nothing on my computer would work after it caught a virus back in July. I left the retailer Vista Ultimate Upgrade disk with my brother over a year ago. I reloaded the OS using the Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade disk.
Anyway, with the help of a FICO member, my Windows is now activated. Thanks everyone!
