Hotel Rewards Program

Starting next month, I’ll be traveling a fair amount for work (~70-100 nights a year) and I’m looking to join a hotel rewards program. Hotel stays will be paid for via a corporate card so I won’t be able to cash in via the CC route, and I’m also curious as to forum members’ general experiences as a rewards member (which is why I’m posting here and not in one of the credit sections)?

Based on travel schedule, geographic footprint, etc. I’ve narrowed it down to Marriott, Hilton, and IHG—but can’t decide which program I should go with.

For most trips I’ll be putting in 15-25 consecutive nights, so great service and accommodations are important to me, as well as perks like breakfast, upgrade potential, etc.

Hoping for some insight—please share your experiences. Thank you!

IHG status doesn't really offer much unless you pay separately for the Ambassador program and stay at InterContinental hotels (which are mostly in major cities and resort areas). Status doesn't mean much at your typical Crowne Plaza or Holiday Inn.

I know enough about Marriott that I'd suggest Marriott over IHG. I don't know Hilton as well.

Hyatt perks can be nice but it sounds like you've ruled them out for their limited footprint.

Appreciate the reply here, and for the insight on IHG and Marriott.

I looked into IHG’s Ambassador program, but don’t envision myself staying at an InterContinental too often. Considering I’ll be traveling to more mid-size cities to start Marriott seems like the best choice.

I did a bit more research and discovered I can get to Platinum Elite w/ Marriott quickly through their status challenge program—16 nights in the first 3 months after signing up.

Fortunately, my first upcoming trip will be somewhere in the 16-20 nights range, so I’ll hit the challenge easily.
