How much are you guys spending on groceries these days?

I ask because there are five of us and my grocery bill is running about $200.00 a week. It seems like every time I go to the store I walk out ticked off because everything is higher. I am wondering if it is just us or if everyone is spending around this much for a family.

The grocery bill is crazy lately!

When DF and I go grocery shopping together, we like to play "guess how much it will be" when we're in line at the register.  The last time we went, I guessed $110 and she said, "Are you kidding me?  That's gonna be $140 at least."

Turned out it was $177!!!!

Of course, we do live in one of the most expensive cities in the country.  But this was just regular weekly shopping for two people.

Our food bill is MORE than our mortgage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG thats expensive...well I am feeding five and we live in Kansas...and I am pretty sure the cost of living here is pretty cheap compared to other places....between buying gas and groceries it takes up a lot of the paycheck. Now my 16 year needs a new fuel pump in her car and her little face looked so sad when I told her she had to ride school bus the rest of school year until I can get it fixed...maybe if she is lucky the tax rebate will show up soon.

I just ran a report in MS Money to see what we've spent on groceries in the last 30 days, and it was $642.

Then I ran the same report to see what we spent on groceries for the same period exactly 6 months ago.  $440.

So our grocery bill is up 46% in the last 6 months.

I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was THAT bad.

Well, we have pretty healthy appetites ourselves.   And we cook some pretty great stuff.  But we're only two adults.  I'm sure kids would change the equation for us immensely.
