Well tell us about your app spree!!
Well, not as much a spree, just chasing rewards, bonuses, and high CL’s.
September of last year I had my last 2 real baddies, charge off’s, fall off. That left me a with 2 auto loans, 1 mortgage & one Cap1 cc w a $320 CL. My score was in the low 700’s. I have extensive reimbursable travel for work, so I started with cards with travel rewards
9/13
Chase Marriott - $6,000
Barclay Arrival + - $800 recon’d --> $5,000
Amex BCP - $2,000
Chase CSP - $5,000
Called Cap1 EO existing Cap1 Plat $320 --> $3,000
Once these cards reported, my score jumped to mid 700’s, so I wanted some util padding because of my travel expenses
11/13-12/13
OCCU - $15,000
PenFed - $13,000
Then my Delta Sky Club membership expired, so I decided to go with an Amex Plat instead of renewing. Amex’s also greatly help my AAOA by backdating to 1995 so I wanted to do the 1 cards 1 HP thing as well.
2/14
Amex Plat – NPSL
Amex Blue Sky - $10,000
4/14
Cap1 Plat to QS EO CLI $3,000 --> $10,000
Then I refi’d my house, and decided to go after a couple of sign up bonuses, and some rewards cards I wanted
6/14
Chase Freedom - $10,000 (moved $5,000 to CSP along w $1,000 from the Marriott)
Sallie Mae - $10,000
Cap1 Venture - $10,000
BCP 3x CLI $2,000 --> $6,000
Arrival auto CLI $5,000 --> $9,000
Then I got a good Delta Plat Amex offer
7/14
Delta Plat Amex - $3,100
PenFed preapproved CLI $13,000 --> $20,000
Then I was drawn in by the sp high CL’s from Nasa, so I made it a little spree of cards that were on my wish list
10/14
Nasa - $25,000
JCB - $4,000
US Bank Cash + - $6,000 recon’d --> $15,000
Fidelity Amex - $12,500
BOA BBR - $12,500
Consumer Credit Union IL - $20,000
Closed Arrival + moved CL to Sallie Mae making $19,000 total CL
To do:
Recon JCB CL when the card arrives
Have CLI requests into Cap1 EO on both cards
Close BCP at the end of the month move CL to Delta
Close Blue Sky next March move CL to Delta
I think what allowed me to amass so much credit so quickly was Amex backdating (4 cards back to 1995), that allowed my report to look falsely thick and inflated my CS. Also the mortgage TL’s are always commented on positively by UW’s. From my own experience, I believe higher CL’s beget higher CL’s at least somewhat, and high-ish income contributes to higher CL’s.
I'm at around 200k not factoring in Amex NPSL and around 300k factoring them in. That plum card really runs high.
My god man...do you even use half of those credit cards? I thought I had too many because about 4/5 of mine are dormant most of the time. I have about 6/7 credit cards that I use on a regular basis for various things but man...are you just racking them up for no reason other than to look at them or do you actually use most of these? Does anyone even use Orbitz anymore? Who still shops at the Gap?
There are some heavy hitters in here, it is very inspiring! Five months ago I had $0 in credit, three days ago I had $300 in credit, today I have $22,999. Hopefully I can move the decimal to the right one more place within the next few years.
You should call and ask for Cabela's to put you at $6000 and just say you're OCD and see what they say.
gpfirestone, hahaha. Once my card gets here I will call and try it. I'll let you know what they say. I can't figure out why they did it, maybe something magical happens at a $6K CL...

He'll have to take a hard pull for $1.
They wouldn't hard pull for $1 on an account that was just opened.
