Try Wescom Credit Union.

Anyone in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties can open a Wescom Credit Union account. They have branches throughout SoCal, including Pasadena.

I've been a member for over five years now and really like the service.

Christian Community Credit Union is in California and opened to members who reside and go to Church in some of the area. You can also be eligible by faith alone if you are not in their area.

 Penfed:

https://www.penfed.org/howToJoin/overview.asp   You can join NMFA for $20 if not eligible any other way. They have great service and a great rewards card.

  • Earn 2% cash back on supermarket purchases*
  • Earn 5.00% cash back from gas purchases paid at the pump
  • Earn 1.25% cash back from all purchases** you make with the card during each billing cycle
  • Up to $50,000 limit
  • No Annual Fee
  • Cash Rewards credited each month
  • No special restrictions to earn your cash rewards
  • For a limited time only-- transfer your balances at 5.99% APR for the life of the transferred balance!†
    • NFCU is great as well if you have family that are military connected and can sponser you. Requirements are:

      • All Department of Defense (DoD) uniformed personnel—Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, retirees and annuitants
      • All Department of Defense Reservists—Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force—regardless of drill status—retirees and annuitants
      • All Army and Air National Guard Personnel—regardless of drill status—civilian employees, retirees and annuitants
      • All DoD Officer Candidate programs: Midshipmen and cadets at the United States Naval Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy and the United States Merchant Marine Academy; Other Officer Programs

      • All DoD civilian employees
      • DoD contractors assigned to U.S. Government installations
      • Family Members, including grandparents, parents, spouses, siblings, grandchildren, children (including adopted, foster and stepchildren) and household members

JFCU you can be eligible by  joining NSA for I believe $30. http://www.sheriffs.org/

I know I am missing some, but those are the most popular here.

Do be aware that CCCU is privately insured by ASI, rather than Federally insured by NCUA or FDIC. ASI is a solid, long-established organization, so the risk is probably not very significant, and of course if one merely wants to deposit a small amount in order to get credit from them the safety of deposits is not much of an issue -- I pay closer attention the financial condition of the places where I have my savings than I do to the financial condition of places that I owe money!

Can't speak to the other CU, but you do NOT have to work for the government, etc. to join PenFed. The most popular option is to do a one-time join of the National Military Families Association, and this will make you eligible.

You don't have to be in a military family to join NMFA; you just need to be willing to give them a one-time dues payment to support them (send kids to summer camp, etc.)

It's like buying Thin Mints and Samoas: you don't need to be a Girl Scout; you just have to be willing to help them out.

Those are GOOD cookies, especially the Thin Mints, the shortbread ones, and the peanut butter ones (I forget the names of the latter two varieties).

      Peanut butter sandwich cookies: Do-Si-Dos

      Chocolate-covered peanut butter cookies: Tagalongs

I pimped a ton of Girl Scout cookies in my mom-at-home days. I remember counting out $7K+ in cash on my living room couch. I felt like a drug dealer! (which I guess I was. Smiley Wink )
