It's been about 4 weeks now since I've been working from home and neither my partner nor I have noticed any new disruptions. That is to say, as usual our "smart" TV struggles to connect to Netflix, Prime, etc. from time to time.
This is the first internet speed test I've run on my new iMac. Uploads are surprsingly "low" compared to uploads from the Windows tower, but I don't care enough to figure out why right now.

Ugh I am so jealous. We won't see fiber here any time soon. Ting started selling fiber in Englewood but they have no plans to expand past the DTC, CenturyLink is using their inherited home team advantage law that allowed Qwest as a Colorado company to cherry pick which neighborhoods they deploy fiber in to avoid doing it in the less affluent parts of town, and Comcast offers Gigabit Pro 2Gbps symmetrical fiber but it's a whole big ordeal to even get it and it requires a $1K install as well as a 3 year contract on top of $300 a month.
I can live with our speeds being lower as long as the internet still is functional. I can't deal with roommates waking me up after 4 hours of sleep upset because it's out though.
You should get an nVidia Shield or Apple TV 4K for that TV by the way. Never have a problem with my Shield, totally was worth the $200 it cost me in 2017. Apple TV 4K is great too but I hate the remote and I use Kodi a lot which is a real hassle to install on the Apple TV. I have an Android TV and I never use the "smart" features because they're unreliable, even on Ethernet.
$300/mo for 2Gbps...I'm all for being "extra", but that's steep. AT&T wanted $90/mo for 300Mbps, or $100/mo for their gig plan.
Between work and home/family, I am 24/7 tech support. It gets old. Really old.
I actually bought a shield when I purchased our TV, but between it and the logitech harmony remote I decided to simplify the setup and stick with the stock remote and apps. I was hoping Sony would push AirPlay support to their 2018 models, but alas it does not look like that is going to happen. For now, the simplicity of builtin apps outweighs the costs (mostly my time) to setup a dedicated device.

Oh there absolutely is increased demand but these outages were just wild. Never thought I would see the day my gigabit cable would post less than 1Mbit/sec download and upload numbers!
I really hope that it doesn't go down again or I might have to kill male roommate. >:\

I am just glad my internet is free and reliable. has not blinked in 3 years.
Of course being on a 5g backhaul dish straight to the data center helps

To be fair to Comcast, their 2 gig is a business class metro ethernet link. They offer it to residential customers but it's not even profitable for them with all the equipment requirements and deployment costs. It was really never meant to be actually installed frequently and was just a placeholder while Comcast worked to roll out DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit. AT&T fiber is GPON and is cheaper to deploy than metro ethernet is.
The 24/7 tech support is one reason why I never went into IT as a career path. I didn't want to start hating what was, at the time, my biggest hobby. I get really irritated when I get volunteered to fix things. I stopped letting people know just how much I know about computers and tech so they would stop asking me to help them all the time.
I understand simplicity to a point but Sony's crappy ethernet adapters they use in the X900F drop all of the time and their WiFi isn't stable even in the same room. My Shield rarely drops on WiFi and never so much as hiccups on ethernet. I sit in my room all of the time though so it probably annoys me more than most if something has to buffer.

Fortunately it appears to be stable today. Now that I finally got him to use the power line adapter there won't be any more WiFi drops and Comcast appears to have gotten their crap together. They may have done a node split when it was down yesterday because the upstream is the highest I have seen it during the day since everyone started having to work from home.

That's completely reasonable for a business line. I have no need for a 2Gb internet connection, but I would like to install 10Gbe in my apartment. Of course, the landlord said no. For now, we're stuck with 100MB/s trasfers to and from the local file server. On the brightside, AT&T agreed to cut our bill in half this morning. All things considered, $50/mo for a 1gig plan seems pretty good in my book.
I used to be into culinary, but highschool ruined that for me. Working in the college IT department was fun, but doing fulltime support for buinesses can be taxing. I'm still very interested in computers, but I am no longer interested in doing much of any in-home support for myself, the Mrs. or friends and family. Cars are my current hobby but I am looking for something new to fixate on to pass the time.
None of my complaints with the X900F revolve around network connection issues. We don't wait for buffering, but will occasionally find that Prime just won't load where Netflix, Hulu, Disney and the others run hiccup free. What I can't stand, is the light bloom on dark scense and grey backgrounds. I'd get an LG OLED but I'd have to redo the wallmount thanks to their stupid design which isn't worth the hassle as we aren't planning on staying here more than another year.
The main reason I got the shield was to stream 4K from the Desktop to the TV for couch co-op, but ended up just getting the Mrs. her own SFF PC to play off of. Since it's only purpose became media consumption, and it didn't play nice with the Harmony remote, the HDMI switch and eARC I returned it.
