You wanted to make a purchase, the electronic system for whatever reason wasn't working, so they had to offer to use the backup. I don't understand why you made a big scene and demanded they hand you the card. It doesn't sound like they were rude or anything, just trying to process your payment.
Just not seeing what the big deal is. Yes, fraud is a concern, and that's why the "knuckle busters" with carbon copies are out of favor, along with advances in tech, but that said sometimes retailers and buisnesses have to fall back on the older methods when new ones fail. One of the stores I worked at a couple years ago had a knuckle buster for when the power went out.
Point is, I really do not see the reason why you got so hysterical over it, but eh. Whatever.

As for the placement of this thread in Smorgasbord, I agree with the decision. This is a rant about a procedure involving the use of a carbon copy, not a discussion of features of the Care Credit product. Even if this was a discussion of general Lens Crafters policy, it would still belong in Smorgasbord.
I could see it being, any credit card that wont swipe may get a carbon copy made of it. (Guessing the imprint of the card was incase it turned into a fraud case, they coud prove the card was used, not just the numbers)
We used to do this all the time at my grandmas store, machine would go down, we just carbon copied then input the numbers later when the machine was working again.
I get all mad as hell about thing too pizza
I just usually calm down b efore I post about it online.
