If you're gonna merge threads into oblivion, i'd prefer to see the shopping cart tricks disappear before the NASA threads
Next I'd love to see someone make it impossible to post to a thread that is older than 12 months (6 months would be even better). It just drives me crazy when someone digs up some old thread and starts correcting the slightly wrong information, when that information was correct back in 2011 when the tread was created.

yes there is no point in reviving a thread over a year old.
@wacdenney wrote:1.) Set threads to automatically lock at some point. So you don't sit there and read several pages before you realize someone has accidentally replied to a thread that's 3 years old.
2.) Give a thread a chance before you send it off to die. If it's generating interest and is informative and helpful, let it sit in the CC section for a bit so people can see it before you send it away to some subforum never to be seen again. (sortof like you're doing now with this one...)
Autolocking old threads: Have to see if that can be implemented automagically given the Lithium interface. Good idea, can't see a downside, will definitely bring that up to the Lithium admin.
On the second point, If it's not applicable to CC's it should be moved when we're talking moving threads to "die" (I'm aware that neither Gen or Gas or News have the same user counts as CC or CCA or RYC), even though I'm admittedly coloring outside of the lines on this particular thread and we have recently on others when it's something we feel is better serviced by a large number of users seeing and commenting.
Guess that leads to another bit, maybe we could roll News out of it's own seperate category into the main ones, just there's too much clutter as is.
Maybe this discussion would be better if we framed what the goals are, and this is my personal opinion:
1) I think we need to create a more social board as the community is somewhat fractured now between CC/CCA, where the general interest type posts are acceptable from a community perspective than currently is the case as Gas / Gen don't really cut it in my estimation to address your second point.
2) I think we need to make information easier to find in the CC forum, we need more stickies to try to cut down on some of the repeated stuff (like the Amex 3X CLI thread which no longer works after we stuck it in Helpful Threads... ok we tried, didn't work as expected), and we need seperation of various general topics.
From what I've seen in the thread so far, and seriously, thank you for the suggestions (I promise it's more than just my reading of it, parallel discussions happening including the bigwigs which I don't count as), we get posts all over the place of "I applied and..." "Preapproval" "Should I apply" "I got denied" "I was approved!" etc. which are more community related albeit with some questions in them, and I'm thinking maybe we should just put these all in the one place likely the CC Applications or similar that I suggested earlier.
That leaves CC's as more information oriented, but I do like the idea of subforums for lenders with the big 4-5 (I forgot Cap 1 in my earlier list), plus a couple of generalized ones that was put forth by longtimelurker and Middleswarth suggested... though I'm afraid it might be a moderator sorting nightmare, but that would likely straighten out over time... for all my bitching, the CCA/CC cross-pollution isn't as bad as it was originally.
I also like the auto-locking of threads idea, should be easy enough to do on the backend once a month or whatever for anything more than a year old if it can't be done by the Lithium software directly easily. Probably will see if we can do this one even if we don't do anything else given it should be fairly easy and I really don't see a downside: think pretty much everyone would be universally in favor of it which makes it an easy community win.
Also in talking with Lexie if we do something like this for CC's, we'll probably try to fix RYC which suffers something of a similar issue, and maybe break it out by CA if there are a couple big ones like AFNI. Also there we might as well merge BK's into it as the post volume is dwarved by RYC, and BK is an option and could use more community around it.
@subwaysandwich: that would be detrimental to the community as I see it, also I can't think of any way to really do that automatically without moderators touching every single one... which ain't going to happen . Waaaaay too much overhead, though if people have thoughts on that I'm certainly willing to entertain them.
Very much appreciate you reading through this and discussing possibilities Rev. =]
I think the seperate sub-forums by issuer would be great for lender specific questions. IE amex 3x CLI, Cap1 never giving CLIs (and how to go about getting them), Barclays not liking new accounts, stuff like that. All the lenders have their quirks and I think it would make it far easier to find specific information you're looking for about a lender you're dealing with / thinking of getting in bed with.
Also, if possible with Lithium, if there is a way to tag a post specifically as a question, so people know that "hey maybe this person needs help." Sometimes thread titles aren't exactly straightforward I've noticed. I know when I log in I usually look for posts with 0 replies to see if maybe someone didn't get an answer to their question.
Possibly a military category, for Navy Federal, USAA, any other military credit cards (isn't there a chase card with Star in the name?). Just an idle thought.
I kinda think the mods don't do enough... I'm sick of seeing credit denials in the approval thread. It's not that hard to post in the right section. And unlike OP stated we don't need 30 NASA threads, hence why the super mega thread was good so we didn't have a first page of the same crap. And as mentioned before can we delete shopping cart trick threads...we get it. You can get a card by loading your shopping cart. Don't need to hear about the same card 3 times a day.

Yeah. I think we just need a sticky like..."Tips & Tricks" thread. With shopping cart, amex 3x cli, GE/Synch CLIs every 4 months blah blah blah. Which banks do HPs vs SPs for CLIs, stuff that has a new thread posted about it on the daily. Maybe when a topic gets hot, like the DC, NASA, and to a smaller effect Diners Club has been lately, sticky the first thread about it, maybe it will deter people from starting 40 new threads about it.

This forum is like a Capital One Secured card... Eventually it will have served its purpose and it will be time to move on. If the mods chase enough users/customers away, I'm sure myFICO may then wake up and make some changes.
I have yet to see one credible instance of "mods chasing users/customers away" in this thread.
If we're doing something wrong, fine tell us and we'll see if we can fix it; however, this type post serves absolutely no purpose without data as from the stats I occasionally get, we are still trending up in both users and post count. I'm not seeing how we're the big bad wolf, heck none of us is on often enough to do that much damage and every moderator action is tracked and viewable by both other moderators and admins... we're no different than you in that regard.
