Re: Most famous credit card myths around you?

Idk if it's a myth, but am curious as to how long filing bankruptcy appears on your credit report. Or shall I say whatever balances owed that were forgiven thru filing bankruptcy. I've heard it's seven years of not only bad luck but bad credit, does anyone know if that falls under truth or myth?

This one is really bad because it's one of the few aspects of credit that almost every source gets right.

For me it's the "You have no money so you use a credit card"

Family and friends think I use credit cards because I don't have the funds, but it's the opposite I have the funds and that's why I use the cards. I have showed my miles and my cash back rewards and still dosen't hit home for some.

This is kind of dumb, but I'm always self concious when using my credit cards. I always think that people think I'm some broke loser who can't afford to pay her own way in life and that's why I'm using a credit card lol.

I think I've found the sacred map that may lead me to this garden everyone keeps talking about.

You could pickpocket Nazeem and then flash around your Dwemer Centurion card from Altmerian Express.

So I wanted to hear your stories about myths around the dark world of credit.

I've heard these a time or two:

If you add an Authorized User, who has bad/low credit (even if they are not given a card to charge on) it can hurt your credit.

Or,  they can somehow hurt your credit because you are linked to themSmiley Frustrated

Lastly, once on your report; always on your report.

That it takes 7 years for your credit to recover from a disaster.

For a lot of people, that myth makes them unwilling to even try to fix it. "What's the point? My credit is toast until I'm 40 anyways."

A lot of people don't realize that if you're proactive about it, almost anyone can make their credit good again in mere months.

Oh yeah, "you don't need credit if you have lots of money."

I suppose you don't, if you don't mind writing a $500 to each utility company! Anybody remember how Dave Ramsey told people who followed his plan, had an empty file, and couldn't get approved for an apartment to work until they had enough money to buy the whole building? Smiley LOL

Re: Most famous credit card myths around you?

I think most of the good ones have already been covered! I mostly come across the belief that simply having a card means you are in crippling debt (or debt at all). But I have one more, courtesy of Dave Ramsey:

To get an 880 FICO score probably cost you about $100,000.

Source: https://youtu.be/nzoOCbgO8CI, around 0:25. He goes on to say that "paying lots of interest to the bank [is] the only way that your FICO score develops".

I haven't paid any interest on my cards, but I guess he's right that my FICO 8's will never be 880! Smiley LOL

My mom always told me that the sky is the limit. So I set my credit score goal at 1000 Smiley Very Happy
