New CSR Design?

Just pulled this from a sidebar ad today:

Apparently the [Octagon Chase] line is being dropped in favor of just the octogon on the left. This would be in-line with the Freedom redesign last year. Their main site still shows the old one that says Chase on the front.

Mine just came a few weeks ago, still has the original layout on it with Chase spelled out on the top.  I'm wondering if perhaps for advertisements purposes, it's easier to see the large Chase symbol than 3 lines of text.  Either way, curious to hear more.

Chase (probably accidentally) hit a home run when they chose the name Sapphire for that family of cards.  I'm sure Amex is endlessly frustrated by the fact that there are so many Gold and Platinum cards in the marketplace, some of them classified as starter cards.  Because nobody else offers a Sapphire, Chase can afford to take the name Chase off the front of the card and let Sapphire stand alone.

Gemstone names do seem under-utilized relative to metals.

Metals: Platinum, Gold, Palladium, Mercury, Quicksilver, Zinc (Zync)...perhaps some copper or silver card.

There's Diamond Preferred...but not anything else I can think of. Maybe Cap1 could have gone with Emerald instead of Spark for their green business cards.

I'd be willing to bet that if American Express, Citi, Discover or anyone else concepted a premium card and fashioned it around either Emerald or Ruby, it would take off.  Just the pronunciation of the word Sapphire is nice. I believe it to be the "fire" is really what's seductive about the word but I wouldn't underestimate the power from the other precious gemstones... because there's only 4.

There are other gemstones that could be used...perhaps giving a product a more unique designation. An opal card might look lovely.

Rubies and sapphires are just different names for aluminum oxide, depending on the color from impurities.

As previously mentioned, the Chase Freedom card was redesigned to use the Chase logo without the Chase name, so I wouldn't be surprised if this updated look was rolled out next.

I wish they would update the Chase Freedom Unlimited card's design so it didn't have the old style raised numbers on the front.

That's the only complaint I have about the F and FU in use. Every other card in my siggy has the numbers on the back.

My assumption is that they will roll out this design revision along with the contactless feature in a short few weeks.

I just hope they don't pull an AmEx and make it so the card visually looks like two cards glued together. I know right now it is still sandwiched, but it only looks like one card from the side.
