Silly things that turn you off...

...to using some cards.

Capital One QS:
-CO's unwillingness to permanently lower APRs. It's downright obtuse.

Citi DC:
-the fact that it's a WMC (or even WEMC) with a hard limit (I'm aware NPSL is no longer a requirement but still)
-clueless CSRs
-messy website
-why the hell did I get it in the first place?

US Bank Is also notorious for its unwillingness to lower APRs, but since my Cash+ is going to be a cash cow despite being sock-drawered, I guess I can look the other way.

What about you, guys? What's in your sock drawer?

Elan Financial Bonus Rewards: lackluster reward structure (1.25%), boring looking card, antiquated website, do they even have an app? (never bothered to check, don't care).  I'm only keeping it because it's my oldest open credit line.

Fidelity Amex: $50 redemption threshold coupled with Amex's slightly limited acceptance and having to deposit the rewards into a Fidelity CMA account.

Chase Freedom: Don't feel inclined to use this unless there's an especially compelling quarterly category like 5% back at restaurants, especially since they've removed the banking relationship bonus.  Chase is my main bank and I wish they'd show a little love to their banking clients like BOA does and some of the other big banks.

Amex TrueEarnings: Now that it's 86'd essentially, I don't feel the need to use it outside of Costco.  I've always hated the annual coupon redemption thing.  The Amex offers for this card are always lackluster compared to other Amex products.  Without backdating, I don't feel as though I would even benefit from having an Amex after this card goes away.

@celluloid17:

I too bank with Chase (checking/savings/mortgage/auto loan), and I love the 1% mortgage CB and .5% rate discount on my auto loan, but I agree that they should definitely sweeten the deal with their Freedom cardholders.

Amex TE: since I got a VW diesel, I stopped fueling up at Costco, since they don't sell diesel in FL.

I would give you a kudos, but it's not an option in this forum for some reason!

Amex blue cash everyday.

Sallie Mae is my go to gas and grocery store and I never go over my monthly threshold on that to need to use my Amex.

That and redemption is limited to statement credit in increments of $25 only.

Bank of America Cash Rewards ----- HATE that you can only redeem your cash back when you have reached $25!! Another card is my Chase Freedom--- Got to have $20 in cash back to even get to redeem. Why do certain credit card companies do this? Capital One and Discover let you redeem even if you have $0.01 at the end of the month?!

Another reason that is keeping me from staying away from Citi's Double Cash card...

Re: Silly things that turn you off...

Amex's $25 threshold for redemption is annoying as well... especially when you consider the rewards already take two months to post.  It's weird to think about, but if I keep the card for a lifetime I'll literally die with them owing me cash rewards... and I'm sure in the case of death they're forfeited, so perhaps that's the idea!  Smiley Frustrated

While I give my USAA card huge props for giving me a chance when nobody else would and really 'opening the doors', with my current card collection that card is really just sort of 'meh'.  They don't do PCs, combinations/reallocations, or APR reductions - basically, what you app for (and get approved for) is what you're stuck with.  Also, any customer initiated CLI is always a HP, although I have received a SP auto-CLI recently so at least that's a possibility.  The only 'saving grace' is that cash advances are no-fee to a USAA checking account, so if needed I could take one and immediately do a BT from NFCU to pay it off, so I guess you could say it's my 'mule' card.

My other cards are OK... Sam's is a bit annoying with the yearly check (made payable to themselves) but for 3% off travel and fast-food, it's worth the wait and extra trip.

I've found that as long as you stay on top of the in's-and-out's of how the rewards programs work for each card, you can generally manage OK in spite of their idiosyncrasies.
