One good thing to come out of all of this is that we will have domestic semiconductor production as a priority.

Guess I'll be playing the stock game for a while. I just purchased my final parts last night, so I'll be putting together my computer next week. Crossing my fingers that my old GPU works; I'm pulling it from my old desktop that bit it, and from memory, I believe the motherboard went on it after having someone diagnose the issue. I'm going to be pretty upset if the 770 is no good, since who knows when I'll get a 3060 Ti.

Newegg had a 3060 Ti on the Shuffle today and I slept in so I missed the chance to try for it. They hardly ever make it to retailers because they're the most profitable cards for mining thanks to their efficiency. Hopefully your GPU is fine so you don't have to go buy one of the super inflated GT 1030s to tide you over!

I'm torn with 30 series cards.  I bought a 2080 ti March 2020 during pandemic.  Paired it with an i9 10900k.  Would suck to build a whole new rig with this being barely a year old but the itch gets real sometimes.  What calms the itch is the lack of inventory lol.  Makes it easy to not buy it if you can't buy it.

10900K can drive even a 3090 no problem (in fact the 11900K is widely seen as a downgrade from the 10900K anyway). No sense in building a whole new machine, just upgrade the graphics card assuming you can find one.

I read some promising articles last night that GPU availability should be getting much better thanks to China's crypto crackdown. Apparently graphics card prices are already down up to 45% there. Still crazy inflated over MSRP but getting better.

I'll be checking Best Buy all day today since it's been 2 weeks since the last drop (that I know of, anyway). In my time following Best Buy, it seems they drop every other Thursday at noon, but 2 weeks ago I think it was around 4pm. I don't have time to wait in a queue at 4pm today, so I'm hoping it is around noon if they drop any.

Best Buy's screwy API has ticked me off too many times. I'm doing the Newegg Shuffle when I wake up early enough to join and there's a 3060 Ti or non-FTW3 3070 Ti but otherwise I'm not going out of my way.

Because i would have to at least upgrade the case, PSU, add more fans, at that point, what the heck, might as well go all in.

Re: So... Who is getting an RTX 3000 card?

My machine is much more modest. The only RGB I have in my machine is the block for my Corsair AIO.

Current specs:

Fractal Design Meshify 2 (white)

Corsair H100i RGB Pro XT AIO

AMD 5600X

MSI MAG X570 Unify

2x16GB Corsair DDR4-3600

1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus

2xCrucial M500 240GB SSDs

Seagate 2TB 7200RPM hybrid

EVGA 780 Ti Superclocked w/ACX

BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 11 1000W PSU

Despite getting everything at or below MSRP, I still sunk about $1700 into it and seeing how it doesn't have a video card yet, it will end up being my most expensive build to date.

I did get an email this morning from EVGA that they have taken me from the queue for the 3070 FTW3 and put me in the queue for the 3070 FTW3 with low hash rate because they are trying to move cards and LHR models are what are being produced the most right now. I'm fine with that since my being on SSDI with Medicaid means I can't do anything with crypto anyway. I'm not holding my breath on being selected though seeing how my time in the queue remains the same and I entered 1/28 and they're still back on December 1st for the last confirmed queue selection. I would be quite happy to buy a 3070 FTW3 at $689 rather than a 3070 Ti FTW3 at $799 though so I'll keep my fingers crossed I get selected for that one first by some miracle.

Re: So... Who is getting an RTX 3000 card?

That's a lot of lights...oof I think I'd have a seizure with that much color in eyesight!

I haven't built a computer in about a year and half since switching the household over to Macs but I'm starting to get a little bit of an itch again to design something new.

The entire state of electronics inventory right now is pretty disheartening as is the increasing trend of gaudy gamer designs. Not even sure where I'd start from. I really enjoyed the founders edition designs of my old 2080Tis where the new 3000 series design is a bit too...functional.

Re: So... Who is getting an RTX 3000 card?

The case I have has a tinted glass so the lights are very subtle.  The room on the other hand, it's definitely not epilespy-friendly.

Re: So... Who is getting an RTX 3000 card?

Well, my first ever hand-built computer booted up with no issues with the GTX 770 and the 5600x. The search continues for a 3060 Ti....
