The so called "do not call list"

This is not the first time this has happened to me. I have had my cell phone since december and knock on wood had not had any calls from telemarketers. Well about 3 weeks or so ago I registered my number on the national do not call registry and now I am getting calls left and right.

The same thing happened with my landline, my last cell phone, my daughters cell phone and my boyfriends cell.

What can be done?

Re: The so called "do not call list"

I have fun with them...in a nice way.

Weekly I get calls about extending my auto warranty. They always ask what make and model. I usually start off by saying that I have a Chevy Impala. They always ask which year and I say 1972. With a frustrated voice they say that the car is too old. I then volunteer another car. I tell them I have a 2004 Honda Pilot. They then ask for stats and tell them I have 90,000 miles. As they type in the info I volunteer that the car was totaled and I bought is as a farm vehicle and that a warranty extension would go a long way in replacing the engine. If they didn't hang up on me by now, I say I do drive a newer Chevy Pickup truck. I string the conversation along as long as I can and then volunteer that the car isn't mine. It is my friend's work truck and they need to call him if they want to offer a warranty. I did manage to get through three vehicles like this with a rep and he said what I did "was totally uncalled for" and he hung up. How did he know I was lying? And if you feel sorry for the guy...look around, many of these companies are scams or they offer a warranty that hardly covers anything at all.

On the side, I am a reseller for a number of companies. If I keep getting unsolicited phone calls, then I solicit back. I don't want to say what I do because it will sound like I am soliciting here, but I'll actually push some of the companies I work with on them twice as hard. Actually got a sale once out of someone trying sell me time-shares.

While you may have legal recourse, I figure I could roll with the punches and have some fun.

Re: The so called "do not call list"

I actually registered over a  month ago if it makes a difference. There is a website you can go to to lodge a complaint which I did.

I  it's fun to mess with them though. Makes me think of a time years ago I was bored and called a psychic hot line. When they asked for my name and birthdate and all the stuff I lied.  They did my free reading anyways. At the end I told them if they were truely psychic they would have known my info wasn't right.

Re: The so called "do not call list"

i just don't answer their stupid calls.  i get really annoyed with telemarketers, so i just ignore them.  we are both on the no-call list, but sprint (our cell carrier) calls us, the local newspaper (we used to subscribe) calls us, etc.

I no longer answer my cell phone, I let voicemail pick it up.  I figure any caller whose number I don't recognize and they don't leave any message is probably not somebody with whom I wish to speak.  Every few days I will Google the missed call numbers, and almost invariably the ones who leave no message are scammers of some description.

Forget that. No way I am going to be in bondage like that. If I get a telemarketer, I ask them how they got my number and to take me off of their call list. I try not be impolite, but if they are not listening and are still reading the script, then the gloves come off.

Re: The so called "do not call list"

I got a really bogus call recently: I won a contest I entered a year ago for a free weekend at the new Four Seasons resort in the mountains! I told them I never would have entered because I'm not a "mountains person;" I'm a "beach person."  They claimed my  husband, Mr. Mas, must have entered my name. Wrong.  Mas is my ex-husband's  name.  Haven't talked to him in years. He doesn't even live in the U.S. And there is no Four Seasons in the area where they were trying to sell this time share.  Soooooooo annoying.
