Time to end the Congrats

Lets face it, people apply for credit for two reasons; firstly because people desire a wallet full of cards, with all the benefits and status the card brings. Secondly, people get cards because he or she is trying to meet immediate needs. The kids need clothes, there has to be food on the table, or the rent payment has to be paid.

However, we, on this site, continue to say CONGRATULATIONS.

Why? We congratulate people for increasing debt. That makes no sense.

The questions should be, why do you need this card; what is your repayment plan; and how much money can you afford toward yet another debt obligation.

50 percent of the posts here simply say "Congrats", just think before you post, and may ask some questions.

Re: Time to end the Congrats

It honestly depends on each individual person. Not all of us think alike or live under the same circumstances.

I don't see cards as debt. I treat them as cash. I only use what I know I can pay back in full. And at the same time, I get points or cash back. It's definitely a win for me, and for other people too. Therefore, that, to me, deserves a congrats Smiley Happy

Re: Time to end the Congrats

Maybe people say congrats because whatever an individual has going on in their personal lives or whatever their reasons are for pursuing new credit is their own business. Not everyone is mired in debt when they apply for new lines of credit. There is no way to tell what a persons reasons were for applying unless they specifically state as much in the post and even then its not my place to judge or ask questions. But thats just me. Those are NOT the only two reasons people apply for cards btw. Browse through the rebuilding forum for awhile why dont you........

Same here; I use my cards for points/cash back. I have to buy food, gas, clothes, etc anyway so I may as well get a little something back. Smiley Happy I always PIF and live well within my means so I think I deserve congrats too. Cat Happy

Increasing debt? I don't think ALL people on this forum apply for cards with the intention of increasing debt. I do it for the bonuses and I like some of the oddball cards because this is a hobby for me.

I have 14 cards so I must be in Debt right?    I only have $400 balance because I have a 0% APR and can float it by choice ...  I can pay it off now but why not keep the money in my wallet longer?

Re: Time to end the Congrats

Credit is a great tool to have for building stable career, having reliable car, buing houses for their families. Whatever persons needs are we just congratulate them in their success for building their bright future. We all fail, all make mistakes and we all here to fix past in order to have a better future.
If person who gets credit card or a loan to get in debt it is his problem.
