I'm in the market for both a new TV and something better than the stock TV sound. I am looking at Vizio, and from what I understand, they are a "generic" brand unlike say - Samsung or Sony. I would like to know if you think their quality and relibility are on par with "the big guys."
I want between a 42" and 50" TV, and it has to be atleast 1080p with 120 hz.
For sound, I was looking at something like this. I would like your input if you think they also make decent home audio systems. (Keep in mind I live in an apartment, so i can't get the huge amazing booming systems that piss the neighbors off).
Thank you in advance for your time and input.

Vizio has actually put out some good hdtvs! Of course, the best ones are going to be the most expensive ones.. I was torn between a Vizio and LG 60 inch in June. I wound up getting the LG because the warranty was better and the overall reviews were better and im extremely happy with the tv! The LG was a smart tv with all the bells and whistles and was only 250 more than the Vizio 60 inch. Also, i preferred a glossy screen as opposed to a matte screen which the vizio had.. Matte screens help block glare but also kind of give off that "giant computer monitor" feel... Always check reviews.. check the warranty.. and check what the tv offers.. how many HDMI ports does it have? The vizio had 2 but the LG had 5! The vizio didnt have wifi connectability.. the LG did.. the vizio didnt have an iphone app that i can use as a controller.. the LG did.. You just gotta compare and see what works best for you...
Interesting read on this subject HERE.
Specifically about the panel grades.
I trust Samsung or Sony for TV's
Consumer reports give a good report on them.
My fiance was looking at them recently and he seems to like them. He's thinking of getting one when we have to replace out Pioneer Elite in the bedroom.

I've owned two Vizio TVs. I think the quality of the 37" one was great! I got a 42" 3D TV and gave the Vizio to my parents to use in their living room. They get a lot of use out of it still. I have a smaller 29" one in my bedroom. It was dropped early on and still has some occasional picture issues. So I attribute that issue to user error. I will probably upgrade my bedroom TV once I get a new dresser (the 29" is inside of a small wardrobe)
I've had a Vizio for about two years now and haven't had any 'major' problems out of it. (32", LED, 120 Hz)
Only problem I've had is that every once in a while it'll lag when trying to turn it off by remote, has happened about 10 times or so whithin 2 years.
I plan on sticking with this budget brand as long as I get good products. I will probably purchase a Vizio sound bar sooner or later.
At first I was skeptical of taking the advice of a wal mart employee. He said he has 3 of them in his house his oldest was over 5 years old and none have ever had issue except 1 had a dead pixel out of the box but was replaced.
I wasnt paying attention when I bought it, thought I might end up with LCD or Plasma (crap) but it was LED which is amazingly better than the other 2 in my opinion.
They are cheaper than similar priced TVs (when we bought ours 2 years ago)
My TV weighs I dunno a few pounds its very light and easy to move. Its been through 2 moves so far and still works great. (one of the kids smacked the screen with something that scratched the plastic at some point but when the TV is on you cant even notice it, not a TV problem though, just saying if you hit the TV on accident, it still works fine, or atleast ours did)
The one and only drawback is I wish it had more speaker power. It had more power than similar units we looked at but going from half volume to full should make more of a difference. (all flat screens are like this though so cant complain too much about it)
Cant comment on your audio pick ive never used any.
Id steer clear of LCD and Plasma, I dont know about you but I hate having to be directly in front of the TV to see anything.
I think ours was only a 42 inch model but it may of been 46 inchs I cant remember. Either way its plenty of tv
I dont have a link to my current tv because I am not sure exactly what model I have (am at work) but it fits your criteria. 1080p, 120hz and plenty of ports in the back for everything! (I remember the 1080p and 120hz refresh because that was all I was looking at on the boxes when I bought mine.)
I've got a Vizio and 8 years later it's still going strong.
