@Anonymous wrote:Do you like hack and slash games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta? The combat is like hack and slash with ATB timers added for special skills. It's a great system but if you're used to turn based, you may have to play it on classic mode which is too easy since characters auto attack and defend.
They made some changes to the story that some aren't so sure about. I don't want to spoil anything but I can just tell you that while it has the key components that made FFVII so awesome, it has expanded and changed things in other ways.
As someone who normally doesn't like hack and slash, I had a lot fun with this one other than a few bosses that were more annoying than they needed to be. I love Final Fantasy VII so much that I would have bought a PS4 Pro just to play this game but I was also someone who bought a 360 just to play Bayonetta. There are some sick games for PS4 that can make the purchase worth it anyway. It's coming to Xbox and probably PC in a year though so if you want to wait, there's no harm there either.
I had a hard time getting in to FFXV personally and I quit playing before even getting to the second location in the game. Remake got a lot of things right that XV got wrong, especially the combat.
Never played either of those games. I own a PS2 only because FFX came out on it, and to this day the only PS2 games I own is FFX, FFXI (yeah I have the HDD for my PS2), and FFXII. Likewise, I bought a PS1 back in the 90s for FFVII, and only own VII, VIII, IX, Tactics, Origins, Chronicles, and Anthology. I also have an XBox360 for... you guessed it, XIII and XIII-2.
If I did this, I can say with near certainty I wouldn't own any other PS4 games besides FXV and VII. The thing stopping me is I'm an older and less otaku-level gamer than I once was, and I'd only play casually. In this case, that might be a good thing since by the time I finally get around to finishing this episode the next one might be about ready to come out.
It honestly sounds like you would probably enjoy this game in classic mode. It functions like the original game does with you selected commands in the menus but it automatically does basic attacks and dodging so you don't have to worry about having to run through the long battles. You can change between normal, easy (which still lets you attack and dodge manually while making fights easier), and classic (which is easy mode with auto battles that is supposed to be more for people used to turn based play) any time in the menu.
I like the game a lot and I think it's an essential game for anyone who likes FFVII.
Witcher 3.....had it forever, just now playing.

What I've decided to do is to go ahead and buy FFXV on PS4 (as I was meaning to play that one, too) but no console and wait for the insanity around FFVII to die down a bit. Seems it's sold out in stores and I don't negotiate with two-bit terrorists who think selling games at 3x retail on eBay is a respectable way to make a living, so I'll wait till summer when inventory returns.
Also looks like the PS5 is coming out this year and is going to be backwards-compatible so I'll just sit on both games until it comes out, pick up a PS5, and then not have to buy another console in 3 years when FFXVI (or another remake -- VI anyone?) comes out. With this strategy, doesn't really matter if I get the game tomorrow or in September, so should work out well.
Also learned that there's apparently a fairly stupid market for old strategy guides. Can't pick up FFXV for under $90, and my old original guides I still have (VII, VIII, etc) all seem to sell for about $100 each now. Glad I kept them all these years. What's next, are all my old M:TG cards also going to also be stupidly priced...oh right.
Still got an Xbox 360 with Kinect. My son loves playing Halo on it.
This is insane. A demo from Unreal just released this morning.
Unreal Engine 5 Revealed! | Next-Gen Real-Time Demo Running on PlayStation 5
I don't even play video games beyond Wii Sports stuff at work...but this makes even me think about buying a PS5. I'd play Last of Us and that Medievil remake on it, and obviously something that uses Unreal Engine 5.
I'm totally hype about ps5.....
Not excited about the white controllers (can't imagine them not looking dingy regardless of of much you clean them), but I'm sure other colors will eventually be made available.
I'm playing Animal Crossing on Switch mostly. The Switch is my go-to since I can pick it up and put it down whenever I want, which is a necessity for me with a toddler. With Animal Crossing starting to lose its appeal to me, I'm hoping some new Mario remastered games come out soon. I'm excited to play Mario 64, Sunshine, and Paper Mario if they come to the switch, as rumored.
I did, however, just buy Jedi Fallen Academy on the Xbox during the May 4th sale ($35) and I am itching to play it. I'll probably boot it up tomorrow night (Friday) when the baby and wife are in bed.
I also used to play a lot of WoW. My desktop broke last year, and my laptop can't run it "quietly" at decent settings. I decided to build a new desktop computer this time (instead of a Dell or HP) so that I can more easily upgrade and replace parts. I'm not sure when I'll begin that, since I'm not too intereseted in jumping back to WoW, but I might start piecing it together this year or next year.

School ended this week so I started COD: Modern Warfare. The campaign story is pretty gnarly.
