Re: What kind of a degree

I have a few Associates Degrees (all computer related)....I was bored when I was younger.  Then decided to get 2 bachelors (computer related) and spent most of my career in the corporate world as an Executive Administrator.....now I'm a Computer Teacher at an elementary school (my students have no filter....love them)

Re: What kind of a degree

B.S. - Chemical Engineering and Mathematics

Grad Certificate - Materials Engineering

M.S. - Chemical Engineering (in progress).

I was planning on going to law school previously, but I have no interest in it anymore. I'm considering a PhD program in either ChemE or MaterialE.

Re: What kind of a degree

Economics. Though it's pretty much useless if you're actually looking to go into Economics without a Master's degree, and usually a Master's degree from a top school.

My baby brother is getting his phd in Materials Engineering right now.

I have an AA in liberal arts and am a few credits short of (and not currently attending) a BFA in creative writing.  Which is why I sell furniture and do not have a better job.  I wasn't passionate about anything enough to find a path to a career in my education.  In fact I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up even though Im well enough into it.

Re: What kind of a degree

I have a BA in Japanese..stupid and pointless. Wish I'd double majored in either IT, accounting, or finance. Don't go to college unless you can't get a job in it. Otherwise it's a huge waste of money. I go back and forth about going to back to school for another BA (most likely IT) or pharmacy school (always wanted to be a pharmicist; probably would be worth it to go into debt to be a pharmicist but I have to find my motivation).

Re: What kind of a degree

My first thought on the degree thing: you want to do something you enjoy, and you need to be gainfully employed doing it.

Definitely look into what you think you want to go to school for, and speak to people in the field. You want to see what kind of degree is required for the type of work you ultimately want to do. I've seen too many people (planning on) enrolling in a bachelors program without realizing that they will actually need a postgraduate degree in order to find work doing what they had envisioned.

FWIW, if you choose your undergraduate degree and intended grad program right, grad schools will pay YOU to enroll, you don't pay them. Some majors command waived tuition and a stipend as a grad student, some just waived tuition, others partial stipends and tuition waivers. Definitely do some investigating if you are open to the idea of grad school.
