Re: What makes you nuts?

What REALLY drives me nuts is people that will hold up an entire parking lot full of drivers just so they can back IN to their parking space... this is not a James Bond movie!! I highly doubt you will have to rocket out of that spot in such a rush that you won't be able to back out like a normal person. It bothers me because it actually takes more time to back IN, than it does to back out! Makes me think they must be a real leming, if I told them eating their own hair mixed with bacon grease is a surefire way to lose weight, they'd chow down immediately.

I'm with you on this.  I think back-inners think they are in some sort of superior drivers/parkers club.  No, sorry, you're just slower than the rest of us.

Re: What makes you nuts?

Yeh, what is with backing in (yeesh, I feel like Jerry Seinfeld, I don't think he has ever taken on this topic).  What cracks me up is someone at work backs in at work into a diagnoal spot against a retaining wall. so she has to drive around so she is situated correctly to park, and when she leaves, she has to do a three point turn...what is the point !!!

Re: What makes you nuts?

A number of my coworkers drive company trucks ranging from Ford Rangers, to work vans, to a huge ungainly bucket truck (for repairing overhead cables).  They're all required by company policy to back into (or pull through) parking spaces- so most of them have gotten pretty good and quick at it.

It also really makes sense, given the sight lines (or lack thereof) on some of those trucks- the cars around the space you're backing into are probably not moving- but if you're backing out and can't see the yahoo flying through the parking lot...

I don't back in myself, though.  I'm not that talented...

Edited to add:
What really drives me nuts is a misbehaving computer.  Come on, you were working just fine yesterday, why won't you do something I've gotten you to do a million times before?!?!?!?  Stupid machines...

Re: What makes you nuts?

My name is masdeocho, and I back into parking spaces.

Look at it this way:  We're all waiting for you (you non-backer-inners) when you are leaving your parking spot.  That's when you are backing out, looking all around with your head spinning like Linda Blair in The Exorcist.

At least I can drive out quickly and cleanly, giving you ample access to park in my former spot.  I'll leave you to argue with the other guy about whose spot it is.

Re: What makes you nuts?

I understand situations where it makes sense...what I don' t get is when it actually takes way more effort to do it.  Guess it doesn't drive me nuts...guess what drives me nuts is trying to figure it out Smiley Very Happy

One of the books I recently read, Three cups of Tea (which is not about parking spaces !, its about mountain climber who ends up building schools and other infrastructure in war torn Afgahnistan) mentions that he picke up the habit in the Army...its really the only explanation I have ever heard.

Guess I have to get over it and move on to tailgators and those who don't use their signals Smiley Wink

Re: What makes you nuts?

What drives me nuts?

The 0.003 milliseconds between the time the light turns green and the time the drivers behind me honk.  This is particularly true when driving in NYC.

For the record, if I'm first in light at a stoplight and someone behind me honks the instant the light turns green, nobody behind me is going anywhere very quickly.

Well...I'll give that one a qualified nod. There are the occasional typo and grammatical error which are common to the human condition, and then u have ur txt speek and peeps who dont even try 2 rite a complet sentence OR WHO POST EVERYTHING IN ALL CAPS.

Re: What makes you nuts?

One day a few years back I got some insight into human nature when I say two drivers almost get into fisticuffs over a parking space. This in and of itself is certainly not unheard of, but the particulars in this instance were worth noting:

1) The parking lot was for a fitness club where people go to exercise.

2) There were plenty of parking spaces one could have if one were willing to walk an extra fifty feet like the people were going to do on the treadmills and exercise bikes right in the building.
