What's the point of singing the card terminal?

Reading on here about people drawing pictures, singing weird names, etc.

 

I thought CCC's check your sigs each time to make sure someone didn't sign your name in a differrent way.

No, the company that charged your card keeps it on file to prove that you made a purchase.

 

So, "signing" using a persona other than yourself could potentially aid in fraud. However, very few frontline associates will bother making an individual re-sign a slip.

Yeah, I've always assumed it was kept on file in case there is a dispute or investigation in the future. Im sure we could sign scribbles that dont even remotely resemble what's signed on the back of the card, and have no problem.

I've been signing mine "Mickey Mouse" for a few years now, and no one has ever noticed.
