Re: Which Laptop do you use?

A 2020 Dell Precision 7540, 15.6" with backlit keyboard. I don't haul it around much so the added weight is not a concern. The larger screen size is helpful because I don't use a seperate monitor. It has quite a few connections including standard size hdmi and ethernet.

I still use my older 2016, 13" Dell Alienware R3 as a secondary computer. Purchased it with a 512 gb SSD. Used it at home and work, very reliable. I am not a gamer but options and build quality were better than other 13" at the time. Side note: Alienware no longer comes in a 13" screen size - smallest is 14".

My wife has a 2021 Dell XPS. It has a smaller 14" screen and weighs less than 1/2 of the Precision. She is quite happy with it.

Macbookk Air for personalm22 processor.  Just get a new air every 2-3 years as happy with them.  Simple and to point as long as you understand MAC OS.

HaveMacbookk Pro for work stuff and a gaming computer for well gaming maybe once a month on.

@CreditCuriosity

I bought my daughter aMacbookk Air forxmass it is a nice device. I will have a closer look at it because the most contact I have had with it is picking it up and wrapping it. I welcome the learning curve I just never gave it a thought to look into as a replacement but I will now. I imagine I will gather some recommendations from you all and then go see them in person at Best Buy etc etc. Thanks!

Yes they are awesome computers and I guess it really depends on what you plan on using it for.  I use my macbook air mainly just for forums and emails and excel and some basic word stuff although capable of doing light gaming, but certainly isn't a gaming computer and some programming on it.  My MacBook Pro for work is used for programming and the OS being Linux based makes it so much more powerful imho than anything running windows.  Most tech companies such as one or ones I work for theirdeveloperss choose to use it for this reason and many others.  Not to mention very durable, long lasting and various other attributes.  Do your research, but honestly apples are price pretty comparable to various PC whether Dell or HP, etc.  Just want you prefer.  I think Windows is extremely clunky personally now vs. say good ole days of windows 7 when I thought it was near perfect.  If you ever want Windows a swell on a Mac you can always install a VM(virutal machine) such as fushionand can MAS OS and windows running, etc..

@Binner I basically agree back before Dell owned them they were decent, but now basically the Dell gaming labtop/pc.  I would just use a custom built desktop like I have now for gaming.  Although everyone such as myself has a reason for their choices and many choices out there with regards to computers and makers

Just a powered up laptop like an xps. Only real difference is the alienfx control panel to control lighting. If design or lighting isn't that important, you can save a few bucks buying an xps.

Ok, and? Never had a problem over the years and I like the styling. I'll buy another one when I'm done with this R3.

Never understood why people feel they need to be "that guy". Same thing happened with my Ford Ranger. All my friends with their Nissans, Toyotas, and Chevys gave me such a hard time because it was a Ford. Ended up needing almost no repairs for 15 years while they all have barely running trucks. Being from a Ford family, we've only ever owned 1 vehicle with issues. And Ford fixed everything for free. The other 13 or so fords never saw the inside of a service bay. But I guess I can thank "those guys" for telling me I made the wrong decision.

If portability and part-time gaming are important; many workstation computers can handle gaming quite well.

Fwiw - Alienware laptops switched to the thin and light M series profiles in 2018. Before that they were built like tanks.

Re: Which Laptop do you use?

Both my wife and I have been using MacBook Pros since 2009. They are extremely durable. My first MacBook Pro I bought in spring of 2009 was a 16 inch.  I bought my wife a 13 inch version too since she felt the 16 inch was too big to tote around.

They both still work to this day but we finally had to upgrade in November of 2021 to the latest versions only because of age issues.  The batteries stopped lasting without being plugged up to a power source. They would only stay on a few minutes if not plugged in.  Another reason was Apple stopped supporting  those computers so we could no longer get any new operating system updates and none of the new software features.

Their longevity is why it was such an easy decision to just buy the latest versions of those Macs again.  I used to have to buy a new windows computer every 1 to 2 years because they'd become unusable.  After getting our Macs I don't see us switching back to Windows based computers.

Re: Which Laptop do you use?

Switched to HP after my old Dell finally gave up the ghost. This is my second HP (Envy) and I love it. I've had it for four years without incident, other than the swelling battery. It was under warranty so it got fixed for free. I haul it around a lot for meetings, travel, etc. I have a 15.6" screen and backlit keyboard. I bought DW a smaller version of basically the same thing. She loves it as well, as she hauls it around when we travel and it's not as heavy as mine. I consider mine to be rather light as well.

Re: Which Laptop do you use?

Got the Toshiba Satellite L55-B5267. It started as a Windows 8.5 now 10. I've replaced almost each part. Hinges, screen, lid, ect. Why? Its on my lap sitting in the ambulance at the track. Get a wreck. Slam it close and slip it my laptop bag. Well mlost of the time. Went with a Samsung SSD a few years ago. Cant kill the thing. Keeps on chugging.
