Every time I have called Amex so far each one of their reps have pushed for me to name authorized users. They keep saying "you can have up to 3 with no additional fees or annual fees"
why? Why are they pushing it so hard? Is it just for the additional spend the AU's would produce? No other company has pushed so hard for Au's although it make sense since Amex has admitted to making most of their money on swipe fees unlike other issues who rely heavier on interest.
I keep telling them there's no one I trust enough to give a card to, especially because of all the financial review issues associated with authorized users. It just doesn't seem worth it to me, the added MR points for all the added risk?
Id guess that the agent gets a bonus for each au card they sell. I always use the app, I haven't noticed a push for aus. I keep getting mailers to upgrade from bce to bcp.
How many times have you called and why? I have been a card holder for years and maybe called them once lol
I believe I have called 4 times
- the first call was to see if they could expedite the shipping on my card to get it to me quicker
- second call was because I got the " future purchases may be declined, please make a payment email" when my balance was only at $1500 so I wanted to see if they could give me my max spending power at that time? Which they did
-third call was because the website wouldn't let me set my pin, I figured out the first statement has to post before the can sign you up for cash advance and make a pin
-4th call was after my statement posted to sign up for cash advance
I suspect it is due to the additional potential spending generated by the AU.
mrs. ptatohed is an AU on all my cards (except upgrade who doesn't allow it). My 14 yo is an AU on a few cards. I've never felt the pressure to add an AU by any of my lenders. But, then again, I have no AmEx cards.
I added my fiance as an AU on my Amex Platinum just so I could get her a free TSA Pre check. It remains sock drawered though as she doesn't have the same interest in credit cards as me.

Ironic you chose Idiocracy because iirc, American Express was one of the corporate sponsors of the "House of Representin'".
Y U not have barcode! Y U not have barcode?
Excuse me, there must have been a mistake. Actually, I'm supposed to be getting out of prison today.
The most extreme parody of America you could even come up with in 2005 is almost tame compared with the real 2025. Very sad.
My favorite part of the movie was where the CEO of the company "Brawndo" didn't know what to do because a computer program that he had no control over reacted to a stock market crash by firing everyone.
