I can't help you with routes or particular trips but when my family (everyone but me, lol) took an Amtrak to San Jose this past summer, I was able to get some Amtrak gift cards at raise / gcx or cardcash.com (I forget) for like 8 - 10% off. Pay with a 2%+ card for another 2%+. Unfortunately, I just looked and I didn't see anything more than a 2.5% discount at the moment. But keep an eye out!
