as long as you call the cc and deactivate the card you should be good! and just run it through a paper shredder.

Re: how to destroy chip on EMV card

A microwave won't destroy them easily, I tried with an old card for giggles. I'd melted around the chip long before it quit reading!

There's no real pressing need to as long as the card is deactivated but yes, a shredder or scissors right through the centre pad of the chip will destroy it.

Re: how to destroy chip on EMV card

Chase has asked for my replacement cards that have been metal and expired "or compromised" . They sent me a postage prepaid box to put the cards in and send back to them. I cant speak or do I  know the policy of other Banks. I have no clue how to possibly destroy a Metal card  maybe with a welder? ha ha

Re: how to destroy chip on EMV card

Why Destroy them? Makes zero sense. It isn't like somebody can steal your info unlike those RFID chips which is a different issue. EMV can't transmit wireless at all and requires a reader to read it like the strips. The RFID chips can transmit wireless and could pose a bigger issue.

I live in NYC and had a RFID Debit card from chase and never had an issue .... So far

Loved how a CVS employee tried to show me how to use it though lol but i was like I just want to swipe it

Tapping your contactless card is MUCH more secure than swiping it. The contactless chip doesn't send enough data to clone the card, only to make a single transaction. If CVS had their system compromised Target-style, your tap data would be useless (it was already used the one transaction it was good for), while your swipe data could be used to clone the card.
