Quite frankly, I think you may actually be lucky. Usually when you make payments on a collection account (and theoretically bring it current) it removes the dofd and those just become past delinquencies... thus keeping it on your report for another 7 yrs. If it is truly set to fall off and you are making payments, i would leave it alone.

Nothing can change the DOFD concerning a CO or collection.

I think the DOFD can change if the person gets current, as in the above example, and then gets behind again. The new DOFD would be when they got behind the 2nd time.

Once again I am guilty of not fully explaining myself. I was talking about the DOFD once an account goes to a CO or collections. That cannot be changed.

Let me ask a hypothetical question. A person gets behind a second time but becomes current once again before a CO or collection. They stay current for 6 months and then get behind a third time. Could this continue as long as they become current each time before the dreaded CO? I'm just wondering.

MVV...you're right on the DOFD for a CO or CA. I missed that part. DOFD can change...but it has to change before the point it reaches CO or CA.
