Consolidation help needed!!

Hello all,

I have been lurking on the forums and paying down my husband's debt (well, I guess its mine, too, since we got married!). I just paid off all the credit cards yesterday - FINALLY!! All that's left is my hubby's $20k govermnent student loan will kick in during January 09 when his part-time student defferal ends. The current minimum is something like $244/month for 10 years. How do we refi/consolidate/whatever to get the mimimums lower? I heard we can refi to 30 years. I'd prefer to have a lower minimums as I am a student myself and would prefer to finiish my degree without any additional debt. I would plan to put extra $$ in each month (especially after I graduate) to his loan paid off sooner without penalty. FYI, My hubby's credit score is 686 and will hopefully be rising! I have no clue how to proceed. In a word - help! Smiley Happy

Thanks!

I always recommend the Direct Loan Program thru the DOE...most payment options, easiest to work with.
