I just contacted Direct Loan, because they are now sending me statements to repay my loan of 50,000. I started receiving the statement in Nov. Now I am 90 + late. The lady I spoke to granted me a deferment which will me back dated to the first missed payment. These missed payments were dinging my credit score every month. Now that this deferment will be back dated and granted. Will this help me credit score
Is this an actual deferment (usually done when you are in school) or is this a forebearance (which can be done for financial reasons)?
If it is a deferment because you were in school the entire time, then I think there is a good chance that they will remove the baddies from your credit report. If this was a forebearance, then you may not see these items removed. This is sorta 50/50 as some that have come across the board had their baddies removed with a backdated forebearance, but others have not.
You may want to get out your loan contract or go to the lender's website to read up on their practices. Many lenders will have a clause that says you are responsible to continue making any payments required until a forebearance has been approved.
