I filed a dispute w EQ to get the DOFD corrected. They have it as 2016, but the report literally has me delinquent in 2013. Their response to the dispute is that my info is accurate. I'm on the phone w them now and the rep has again acknowledged that I was delinquent in 2013 and then current in 2014 and delinquent again in 2016. She seems to think that me being current after the DOFD affects things. Am *I* the one who doesn't get it? ...She tt someone else who suggested that I send another dispute, which is what she told me when she thought that she was right, so I'm not sure if they have any intention of updating it. So, if I was delinquent in 2013, current in 2014, and then delinquent in 2016, does this somehow affect my DOFD, or is my DOFD still in 2013? Ugh! Learned so much from you guys. Thanks!

If the account is ever brought current again, that changes the DoFD. I have several SLs with this issue where they kept getting put in forebearance/deferment for 3 months every year for 3 years, moving my DoFD from 2013 to 2016, as well.
The DoFD is not the actual first late you ever had, it is the first late in the string of lates that lead to the end of the account (default/CO/repo, etc.). 2016 is accurate and the TLs will not fall off this year, it will be in 2023 and Fed backed SLs never go away. They will haunt you when you least expect it and will prevent you from owning a home, getting your tax returns, and potentially/likely getting a judgement down the road.
And please dont dispute them! Fed loans are cruel with disputes. They generally begin reporting at 90d late, when you dispute them, they tend to add on additional lates (the 30d and 60d lates). The disputes when verified also give a fresh update and further supress your scores.
Good luck!
Here is an example from EQ. Thankfully EQ doesnt have the SLs reporting with the 3 years worth of resetting DoFD.
Day 1 of being late counting back from the 90d late in 1/2015 is 10/2014. This is absolutely correct even though I was late in 2013.
Also remember that EQ really doesnt do EE. That is something TU and EX. EQ has been known to drop accounts 1-4 months early lately, but it is not guarunteed. I jave an item aging off in October, but EQ has been dropping off individual lare early. I am giving them until October to drop the whole TL.
So you may just need to wait until 2023 for it to age off naturally, unfortunately there really is little that can be done unless the loans are completely paid off
A CRA once really did have my DOFD wrong, and I filed a dispute. Unfortunately, they just verified it and continued.
I ended up having to get a letter from my servicer with the correct DOFD to submit to get the CRA to correct it. So if this really is an error, you may need to work with the servicer to get it right.

sorry, i didn't see any alert that you replied...so, here's another twist. these particular loans were with 1 servicer and were delinquent, but transferred to another servicer. they have been paid off. could they be removed due to payoff, even if i paid another servicer?

Unfortunately, most likely not.
