Haven't been on the boards in quite awhile....
I have >$30,000 in variable private student loans (AES), some of which are 3% and others 3.5%. I'd like to refinance and consolidate them into a fixed loan before rates climb.
Unfortunately, my hours and pay have been cut significantly recently, but I currently have excellent FICOs (all 3 above 800).
What's the best way to do this?
Thanks ahead of time!
You'll need to start by looking at private lenders and shopping around for favorable terms and rates. These can vary widely, so read the fine print before you decide what might work best for you. And remember to check with banks/credit unions where you already have a relationship, they may be able to offer you a better deal. Once you've picked out a few likely candidates, you'll need to apply.
Like any installment loan application, they are going to look both at your credit score and your income. It may be beneficial for you to wait until your income situation improves before you apply to increase your chances of being approved. If it doesn't look like you have the ability to repay, no lender is going to help you refinance.
That's what I figured. Thx
