Student Loan Question

Couple of years ago my student loan went into default. I rehabbed it (never late, never missed a payment) and it came out of default.

This is still showing on my credit report (this was prior to default).

Experian Equifax
- Account No.: xxxxxxxxxx**** xxxxxxxxxx****
- Condition: Derogatory Derogatory
- Balance: $0 $0
- Type: Educational Collection
- Pay Status: Collection/Chargeoff Late 120 Days

[Experian] Student loan permanently assign to government.
Account seriously past due date/account assigned to attorney, collection agency, or credit grantor's internal collection department.
Claim filed with government for insured portion of balance of loan.

[Equifax] Paid collection
Student loan assigned to government

There is another trade line on there for the exact same loan (same total amount/original amount) that appeared AFTER rehab that is in good standing.

My question is, should the above be removed, or changed from Collection/Chargeoff and/or Late 120 days? Is this a duplicate entry (since there is a good trade line showing for the same loan)?

Re: Student Loan Question

I would either contact DOE- and ask for them to assist

or dispute the accounts-

They should not be displaying this way.

Re: Student Loan Question

Tried disputing with both Equifax and Experian. Both came back verified. (Sorry, forgot to mention that in the previous post.)

Re: Student Loan Question

to check current status on your loan go to www.nslds.ed.gov

You may need to set up a pin number. But click the financial aid review button. All loans backed by the government will be on this site!

All status info is included.

Re: Student Loan Question

I have the exact same problem.  After I rehabilitated my student loans, DOE created a second new account.  So I asked them to remove the old account but they instead put both were permanently assigned to the government which then brought down my credit score over 60 points, right at the time I was looking to refinance my 13.9% car loan or trade it in for a better rate.

I logged into that website with my PIN and all the loans say "IN REPAYMENT".  Where do I go from here?  Thank you

Re: Student Loan Question

Still waiting on my PIN to activate, but I did log into the Ed Financial website. Original loan (before default) is showing on there with $0 balance, CLAIM PAID.

It shows "Current Loan Status" as DEFAULT. The loan after default is listed too (in good standing, correct balance, current).

Re: Student Loan Question

I got into the www.nslds.ed.gov website. The loans before default are not showing there.

Re: Student Loan Question

Still no movement on this. EdFi/EdSouth won't change the status of the old loan. Still showing as in the original post.
