Hello everyone! I am still pretty new to the forums, but I have a question. I am looking into getting a new vehicle and it seems like there may be an issue with debt to income because my loans are in deferrment. When I was speaking to my credit union they said they now have to take this into account(even though they will not be due until 12-2010). Loan officer stated there is some documentation from lender I could provide along with my application so they will not assume the highest payment. Does anyone know what that is? The other issue is the field that I intend to go into after graduation will forgive my loans....
Any help ANYONE could provide would be great???
When I was still in school, and my loans were still deferred, I went onto the department of education website and chose a repayment plan. Initially my repayment plan was set at 10 years, resulting in my payments being a little less than $400 a month. I "chose" the extended repayment plan, which results in thirty years of payments (did this online), and a new payment amount of $149. Even though I've never paid anything for the student loans, my new minimum payment is now reflected on my credit report. It also says that I'm in deferral.
Don't know if this will help or not. I just know that in my case, the reported minimum payment did change. Any chance you can do this?
