Weird AES reporting

My wife only has one loan for $3,500 in the NSLDS, but from 11/07/08 and on, Experian is showing two distinct loans of this amount.  Here is the first one, that's been there all along:

(These are the ones PHEAA picked up and duplicated, see my other recent thread on this board.)

How the heck did this mix up happen, and more importantly, how do I get the inaccurate TL off?  EX already "verified" it.  I do know I disputed several SL TLs with derogatory statuses, but they were paid.  On 11/07/08, Experian updated one 176XXXX470... line and deleted one but the one that's listed is NEITHER of the original two!  HELP!

Re: Weird AES reporting

The loans opened in 1999, the account # 176XXXX470 ones, were the ones we just finished rehabbing.

The loans with the account # 774XXXX33PA0.... were all consolidated in 9/06 to avoid default ("Account closed due to refinance.") (and then defaulted on...)

How do we get rid of this "hybrid account" that was supposedly opened in 2000 for $3500 and then defaulted on (176... account no), when that loan was NOT defaulted on but consolidated (774... account no)?

I can't believe i just figured this out, after 8 months of trying to figure out where this one loan came from...

Re: Weird AES reporting

We disputed the inaccurate lines with EX and EQ, but goofy EX, since we were LOOKING at the accurate line for some info in another window, when we disputed, the dispute ended up going on the wrong account (the one that was reporting accurately)!  I hope it doesn't make things worse!

This thread is almost 18 months old so you may or may not get an answer to your question. I didn't want you to think you were being ignored if Mike14 never responded to you.

From a BK years ago to:
EX - 9/09 pulled by lender 802, EQ - 10/10-813, TU - 10/10-774

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem".

Re: Weird AES reporting

As mentioned, this thread is 18 months old; in that time, the duplicate was removed, but I don't remember how. The account number contained my wife's SSN and I believe one TL was reporting under her correct SSN and one was under an incorrect SSN. As part of the rehab process, they added the correct account number and left the incorrect one too. I think once the rehab was complete, we disputed the incorrect TL again and it was removed.

You're confusing the Credit Reporting Time Period (CRTP), which is how long it can report on your credit report, and the Statute of Limitations (SOL), which how long you can be sued for. The CRPT is 7.5 years like any other negative TL; there is no SOL for student loans. With less than a year left of the CRTP, I expect AES will soon be subrogation the account, giving you a new TL. I'd start rehanging this loan ASAP if you are still in default.

Hi Mike14,

I am so glad I found this thread...or, more accurately, that someone else found it and replied to it bringing it back to the front page. Smiley Happy

Anyway, who did you dispute with - AES or the CRAs - and what exactly did you say? Please give as much detail as possible, as I am in a similar situation.

I have a TL on Experian for AES EDUC FUNDING SOUTH and a TL on Equifax for AES/PHEAA. Both are for the same old defaulted SL which has since been rehabbed and picked up by a new lender (back in May).

Thanks, in advance, for any help.
