15% Overall Utilization Threshold

I don't see much talk of the +/- 15% overall utilization score threshold so I thought I'd chime in in case this information is useful to someone else.

I've been hovering around that mark for several months now -- this is the second time I've gone over 15% and now the second time I've come under 15%.  Each time my score change was 7 points.  Perfectly consistent.  Nothing else in my file changed.  The CRA was Experian.

I have one card at 53% individually that, due to a CLI, will drop to 23%.  I'm curious what kind of bump, if any, I'll get for shedding the 50% + scoring penalty.

Re: 15% Overall Utilization Threshold

We've seen some speculation that 5% may exist in some scorecards, but this is the first I've heard about 15%. Can you eliminate the possibility that individual card utilization could have been involved?

Sorry, Ohio.  I'm not understanding what you're asking me.

Re: 15% Overall Utilization Threshold

When you crossed 15% in overall utilization, is it possible that the individual card with the highest utilization might have crossed a known threshold, i.e. 8.9%, 28.9%, 48.9%, 68.9% or 88.9%?

Overall utilization and individual card utilization both factor into the revolving portion of your score. Individual card utilization is determined by the card whose utilization is the highest.

Also factored into the revolving portion of your score is the number/percentage of cards reporting positive balances. But when you mentioned that nothing else on your profile had changed, I assumed that factor had stayed the same.

I get what you're saying now.  And no, no other thresholds were crossed.  I have one card reporting 53% and one reporting 35% but both of those have remained unchanged (percentage wise) for the last 5 months as they have been getting minimum payments.

You mean the penalty is assessed according to the card with the highest utl?  Meaning, the penalty I'm receiving is based on the 53% card?  That makes sense of course, but I figured I was getting two scoring penalties.

Correct, that remained the same also.
