Here's my question, I opened my CapOne, HSBC, Zales, Kay's, Macys account in Oct 09, actually all on the the same day. I want to close my Capone and HSBC because I dont' want to pay another AF on 2 low limit cards that I've gotten repeated CLI denials ($500/$520 CL's), each of my store card CL's are more than both the capone and hsbc combined. Will my scores take a big hit eventhough I will still have 3 other cards that were opened at the same time as those two? I also have 3 Amex's and a BBRZMC that has no AF that I got last year and a visa through my CU, so I would have other CC's if i were to close those 2. Any advice?
I'm sure you'll be OK. Per AAoA, it won't change. Closed OC TLs still factor into AAoA.
IIecs thanks for responding, that's great to hear it won't affect my score. I'm just ready to be done with both of them, they have served their purpose and losing the $1000 combined CL won't affect my util since I PIF on my other cards. Capone and HSBC are on they're way out the door ![]()
Closing accounts wont influence your AAoA until approx. 10 years after account closing. The CRAs have various internal policies, which I think are totally improper, of often deleting old accounts from your credit file when they have been closed for more than 10 years. So you dont have to worry about CRA deletion for a decade.
Of course, you have no control over an OC reporting an account deletion at any time. That is their right. However, once an account is closed in good-standing, the OCs generally tend to forget about them, and dont commonly delete them on their own.
