does closing an account in good standing have any effect on your score? I know that can affect utilization depending on the rest of your profile, but does it actually affect the average age of accounts to close an account given that a positive account will remain on your credit for 10 years anyway?

No. As long as it is on your report it contributes to your AAoA

It will contribute to your AAoA until it falls off in many years. By then it won't matter much anymore anyway!
