All cards at zero: –32, –37 points

Capital One surprised me by reporting a mid-cycle zero balance, putting all of my card balances at zero. My Equifax FICO 8 dropped from 815 to 783, and my Transunion FICO 8 dropped from 815 to 778. Once I know that Experian has updated, I'll grab a 3B report.

My previous balance was $44, reported about March 26. The only change since then was a 3-point TU bump on April 1, likely due to my AAoA reaching 84 months.

I think the balance was reported because I "lost" the card. Actually, I know exactly where the card is, making it technically not lost. But when you leave a card in a restaurant in another city, you replace it. Smiley Happy

Whew, glad you added the last part. I was sweating a omg moment of my utilization before statement cut. LOL.

It's funny because I've had more replacement cards that I can count, including three that went through fraud investigations. None of them caused a mid-cycle report.

Had this reported a day later (or maybe hours later), there'd have been a balance of $6. Smiley Happy

Hi there HO!  Any idea why your AZ/no revolving credit use penalty is about twice that of what we typically see?  Have you tested this before and are the drops you just experienced standard on your profile?  From what I recall your profile isn't wildly different than mine... yours is clean/thick/aged I believe?  How may total revolvers/accounts do you have open again?

Six revolvers, no loans, one closed utility account (TU only).

I wonder if it's worse that I'm not using credit at all vs. simply not using revolving credit.

You are proving that the higher up the Fico chain you are the larger the hit can be if all are reporting at 0

Hrm.

I looked at some of my old dirty scorecard data that is tagged all zero's and I did see 20-30 point moves and that was at 740 or lower... one such sample though I had some TU ones which were more extreme but the data wasn't as clear at this date.  Odd as I am pretty sure I had something similar recently and my moves were much less pronounced, suggesting scorecard dependance.

I don't believe that's the case.  I'm equally high up the FICO chain and my hit for no revolving credit use has never been greater than 16-22 points.

HO, I think your point is interesting regarding no open installment loan on your file, meaning that you're showing no credit use at all, not just no revolving credit use.  I'd like to hear from others that have gone to AZ from AZEO, specifically if they had an open installment loan or not and what their score drop(s) were.

Re: All cards at zero: –32, –37 points

I second gdales’ comment. Heaven’s file is essentially thin, regarding types of credit, and a high AAOA. Time with no lates and few apps allows the score to rise, but because it is based only on the revolvers, removing those is a more drastic score change. Nothing else to provide score support.

Not that 780 is bad, and it will be interesting to see how the other score models react.
