Wow thanks for that information, I never considered that. I'll keep a close eye on this thread! I appreciate the knowledge
Just signed up with Alliant recently, had to fax my passport and a utility bill but they approved and sent me the welcome message the same day I faxed the docs. I live within walking distance of a few branches.
Still have some baddies on my CRAs that I hope to dispute away over the next few months so I doubt the SSL will help my scores now, but once I rebucket I'm hoping it helps overall!

Nah, installment utilization as near as I can tell exists in all buckets. Can look at my original gains if you're really curious when we found and were testing it, but I had a bunch of negatives (and still do) and I still got a good pop 20ish points per bureau FICO 8 from it.
LIke all things FICO people in clean buckets seem to get a larger magnitude shift, but it's still worthwhile doing even as a dirty birdy like me.

I hate the terminology 'dirty' and 'clean',when the terminology means having a blemish on one's credit history. I wish we had some better terminology for it. I mean life happens, people run into problems; it doesn't make them any dirtier than the person whose financial path is smoother.
Some of the dirtiest people in our society have the most money.
And most of the cleanest people in our society have little or nothing.

Hah, I agree. My credite file is dirty and I'm proud of it! It'll be that much sweeter when I'm clean or aka having a disease-free credit report
Here's to 2020!! Cheers!!!

A dirty file does not maketh a dirty person!
I resemble that remark, I hope!
It's just language, not an indictment of any sort of failure... we have near zero tolerance for people who belittle other's mistakes here, and I think that line has been held successfully over the years.
I hate the term buckets - reminds me of my after hours cleaning job in high school.
I much prefer the term scorecards even though I suck at golf.
hi all and in particular CreditGuyInDixie
how long it takes before the installment loan reflects in your credit score,
I am trying everything I can to increase my score from 701 to 720 in 2 months, We have a plan to take home loan after 3 months.
Can this installment route work ?
THanks again !!!

As soon as it reports it helps, call it 2 months.
Problem is it doesn't help 2/3 of the scores for a mortgage; it only affects the Experian score in the standard tri-merge pull which underwrites 99.99% of the mortgages here in the US.
I'd look for other routes for score improvement unless it so happens that your Experian score is middle or low score and on the bubble: think I gained 6 points total on that model from this trick, not the 20ish that I gained on more recent models.
