Additional Information

Hi all. I have a credit card that was closed about a year ago that is reporting "account closed at consumers request," which was not the case. I am still paying on this account as well. So my question is the bureau (EQ), put in the additional comments "consumer says account is responsibility of seperated or divorced spouse." I have never disputed it as such. So do I leave it be? Dispute it again? Or just leave it alone? I want to be sure there is no negative impacts on my score. I pay the card every month and it reports positive despite the fact it's a closed account. Thanks.

Re: Additional Information

How can you be paying the card every month if it is closed? Is it is because you were an authorized user on the card? If so, and you are concerned about potential negatives appearing on the account, or you feel the card is not contributing any positives to your score, e.g., it is not one of your only 2 CCs or (one of) your oldest card(s), then you can dispute it asking the account to be removed or cease to be updated. Otherwise you can just let it be.

Just because the card is closed does not mean the balance could not be paid off in payments. The New Credit Card Act gives consumers the option not to accept new terms that creditors/lenders instill upon them. Which in turn the creditors/lenders close out the account and the balance is paid according to the old terms, just as an example.

Re: Additional Information

The card is/ was mine from the beginning. It was an Imagine CC. Imagine closed it's doors I guess, closed my account, and another company (Tribute) took over my account. My real concern is my score with the additional comment that it's a former spouses, to which it is not. Thanks.

Another scenario. An account could be charged off and closed by the creditor but it still has a balance.
