Another FICO 08 Question

Do we know what other issues they will be addressing besides the piggybacking of credit?

Like the issue of collections hurting the same if they are paid or unpaid? I believe that you would be less of a credit risk if you have paid your collections and thus should be rewarded for it by it not hurting as much.

I don't know specifically about the issue of whether a paid collection will hurt less than an unpaid collection, but I have read that FICO 08 will supposedly address the issue of being dinged when you pay an old collection, resulting in FICO treating it as a new collection due to an updated DOLA.

Personally, I understand the logic behind not treating paid collections any differently than unpaid ones.  If you think about the purpose of the FICO model, and understand it is intended to be a predictive model to score people according to their risk to the lender, the fact that a collection was paid doesn't change the fact that the account still went to collections in the first place.  From the OC's perspective, if they sell an "uncollectable" account to a CA or JDB, they don't really care that the account was paid after they sold it (since if the account was sold, the OC doesn't see any of that money that was paid after the fact anyway).  All they care about was the fact that they had to send it to collections in the first place.

Re: Another FICO 08 Question

Hey Cheddar, where did you read about the new FICO 08 not dinging you for updated DOLA?

I would like to know if its fact that an updated DOLA wont hurt your FICO any more because I just had an old CO from 03 update the DOLA to Feb 08 and I think its hurting although I dont think it dropped my scores, I think its holding me back.

Thanks

I don't recall where I read it, but it was an article in a financial magazine or newspaper, so I don't know whether to believe it or not.  I'm trying to get some more concrete information on this.  Stay tuned.

Re: Another FICO 08 Question

Thanks cheddar, that will help alot of people out if that ends up being the case.

I was wondering, Ive heard March 1st as being the go live date for Fico 08, and I read several threads over in the news forum but couldnt find where I had seen that at. Is March 1st when its expected to go in effect (and I heard equifax was holding off)?

It will not be March 1.

The author of this article seems to think it will be in May:

Re: Another FICO 08 Question

Here's my prediction 6 months ago that it wouldn't be before June '08 ...

I'm revising that now to Fall '08.

Anyone want to start a pool?
