Re: Authorized user helps score?

Yes, it will copy to your report and affect your FICO score. But it can just as easily affect you negatively there are any negatives on her account Smiley Happy

Re: Authorized user helps score?

Thanks. Fortunately, its paid on time. Does it help my score as much as if it were mine? I was wondering if secured credit cards helped. I had Wells Fargo ones

Re: Authorized user helps score?

I did a little googling about this yesterday, and added my girlfriend to my longest standing credit card for the same purpose. She is refinancing her house in a few months and I hope that will help knock her score up a bit, we'll see. From what I read, it should help your score if the account has no late payments or no high utilization charges on it. However upon a physical review of your credit report, a lender would be able to tell that you're just an authorized user and might take that into consideration if you don't have many credit lines of your own. But I can't speak from personal experience how it affects you, not yet at least!

Re: Authorized user helps score?

It will help your FICO score as much as if it were yours, but internal scores with individual lenders may vary. Some lenders, such as Chase, do not consider AU accounts. Other lenders such as AMEX are happy to see AU accounts.

Re: Authorized user helps score?

I'm assuming you can also remove an authorized user, but how is that reflected on a CR? Does the trade line just disappear? How quickly?

Let's say, for example, I'm added to my g/f's card, and then she dumps me, maxes it out and then never pays. I

Re: Authorized user helps score?

I had a similar situation that I was an AU on a card, the balance became too high and affected my score negativley. I simply contacted the lender (Chase in this case) and requested that it be removed from my report, and remove my AU status. Chase sent me a form, I filled it out and mailed it in. Disappeared a week later.
