Authorized user

When becoming an authorized user on somebody else’s account does the age of account on your report start from when your card is issued or when the original card holders account was issued?

For example: my wife opened a credit card three years ago and she made me an authorized user today. Do I get the benefit of three years or does my time start today?

Re: Authorized user

It depends on the bank. Most will give you the benefit of the date that the card was opened by the primary holder. AMEX will use the date that you were added as an AU.

Re: Authorized user

I’d also love to know the answer for this. Especially for Citi.

Amex, true date the AU was added.
BofA, date of card/account open of primary

Re: Authorized user

I would think in most cases it goes by the date the original card was opened, as that's one of the main purposes of becoming an AU, to improve one's age of accounts factors.
