So I was notified on Sunday that someone was trying to run my Best Buy card...Citibank contacted me, I said it wasn't me and they said it would be denied and filed a dispute for me, issued a new card and what not.
Today, I see that the charges did go through and they totaled almost 1000 dollars over my limit. Citibank reported the balance to the CRBs. Now my scores have dropped 10-30 points overnight.
Even after they fix this fraud, will my scores go back up when it is shown as a zero balance or have I been placed into a bucket for going over the limit and whatnot? I'm not sure how that works.
I'm curious too.
Typically, if they weren't able to catch it before it's reported, it'll be fixed in a following update. Considering the circumstances, I don't see why Citi would be opposed to an off cycle update. I would simply ask for one and if I receive pushback, escalate to the executive office. That being said, I'm the type that if it's not going to cause me any immediate issues, or I'm not about to app for something, I'll just let it run its course naturally.
Yeah, there isn't anything I'm trying to do right now.. but after getting to the 770's, to see it drop gives me anxiety, lol. I just want to make sure the CRBs would update it. I've heard about people being stuck in "purgatory" when it looks like they went over their limit and whatnot. After paying it down to zero, I wasn't happy to see 5200 dollars on it and no one can really give me any information over the phone for some reason.
Once the charges are removed it will update the highest balance as well.
