CK more accurate than CCT?

Hey All,

I've been interested in auto loans recently, and after being recommended DCU. I waited until my CCT reported that my score was 675, and I applied. They state that my score is actually 663, which is precisely what CK reports it is for EQ.

I've always assumed CK was inaccurate, especially in comparison to a CCT Full 3 Bureau check.

Unfortunately I've taken a 5p hit for the EQ HP, which makes me bummed because I only applied because I had 675 which qual's you for a better % APR Smiley Sad The funniest/worst part was when I mentioned my scores were a bit higher to my knowledge, she actually said "Are you using CreditKarma? because those are generally incorrect". It's the exact opposite this time around. Go figure.

Re: CK more accurate than CCT?

CCT provides FICO8 scores. DCU probably pulled a flavor of FICO that was something other than FICO8.

Your VantageScore may have been hit for the auto loan inquiry right away. But like FICO, I'd guess that Vantage treats multiple auto inquiries with a short time as one pull. Someone else would have to confirm that.

FICO will buffer auto inquires for a short period, i.e., they won't affect your score until some time has elapsed (30 days maybe). That would prevent your score from immediately dropping due to the inquiries generated while you shop for your loan.

Re: CK more accurate than CCT?

They are 2 different scoring models.  Neither is more "accurate" than the other, they are simply different.  CCT uses FICO 08, which I can assure you is probably 1000x more common that VS 3.0, which CK uses.  What you need to find out is the scoring model used by the lender that you just applied with.  If their score matched your CK score, I can say with complete confidence that it was simply a fluke.  No doubt the lender you just applied with uses some sort of FICO model and their score just happened to match your CK (VS 3.0) score.

Your FICO scores are far more meaningful that CK (VS 3.0) scores.

DCU uses your mortgage score, EQ 5. It's just a coincidence that it is the same is Credit Karma as they use different scoring models.
