I just paid off the balance on both of my Capital One cards. Being curious I requested a Credit Limit Increase ... it was approved but for $500. I declined it .. my question is how long should I wait before requesting again (hoping for a larger increase)
Thank you
I am assuming that these cards are right around the 3 month mark (just guessing)....also assuming that you are in the credit steps program...if this is true..keep using the cards and at the 6-7 month mark you should get an auto increase. If I were you and if this was a cli request right around the 3 month mark...I would go ahead and accept it and then bank on a nicer increase when you are due for you credt steps increase...assuming all of my assumptions are correct. Also Capital One has been a bit stingy lately. I am not really sure that if you don't accept the 500 offer that it means you will get a better one later...IMO....good luck!!
ahh...ok... well as I stated previously, Capital One has not been as generous as they have been in the past here lately....so again I would accept the 500 if you need to...otherwise..keep using the cards and hope for the best in the future...
BTW...what are your current scores and how healthy is your credit profile...if you don't mind me asking..
I have a Capitol One Credit Card and called in and asked for a cli after an auto initiated request was denied. The representative responded, " Use your card more at higher levels." When I responded that I did not like my Cap One Card reporting at or above 50 percent, I did not get any additional responses and I did not get an additional cli. My Cap One card has the lowest limit of any card I have in my possession.

If those are your current scores, were they lower or higher at the time you were approved for your Capital One card?
If they were lower, unfortunately your account will be blacklisted forever and you'll hit a ceiling with that card, usually around $3k but maybe $4k. Once you get to that point, based on your approval profile despite anything you've done to improve it you'll always be viewed the same way you were the day you were approved. The only work-around for this issue is to apply for a new CO card at some point.
They were roughly 20-30 points lower. So ...at what point do i apply for a new/different one? Do I try to consolidate?
