Re: Closing my tjmaxx card caused my score to go up!

I'm scratching my head as to why given you have other store and gas cards in your signature?  Likely just triggered a report of some other change is my guess, though we had another report of someone closing his only store card and getting a boost... I'm hoping to get a clean data point when I kick my Wally (singleton Retail line) to the curb sometime post mortgage post spree when my scores are stable again.

I've been doing a little experimenting myself.  Since my score remained stagnant except for 1 point, I decided to put 12k on 3 cards.  They just reported and my score went up 4 points.  Now to see what happens when I pay them off?

How many total revolving tradelines?  Wouldn't expect a utilization hit at 12K with your aggregate CL stats.

Yes, not UT hit.  Now, about 19.  I would have thought that would drop it.

Not really any chance Sandi Smiley Happy

We had reports with people at 15-16 cards not taking a hit at 3 lines, if our theory is anywhere close to accurate with 19 revolving trades and <10% you're still close to your sweet spot though there's some variation from reports in the $2 to 10% range give or take.

Ergo change was from something else... you'll have to do worse than that heh.  If you want to test, let $2 report on 5 tradelines ($2 on each).  If it is something dumb like a 25% rule you should see a drop on that, then go down to 4 and likely would go up.  I'm not too proud to beg for datapoints from people whose files are thicker than my 9 cards!

Okay, will try that.  Yes, it's still low.  And I won't charge them up to test those waters.  Give me a while to report back. I can probably have an answer by mid-July, latest.

This. With OP scores in the low 600's, it's probably aging of whatever negatives there are and another month of good payment history.
