Collection Agency reported debt before validation

Can anybody help with this..I have a collection account on my credit report (only 2 agencies are reporting the debt: Trans and Equifax) that were purchased from the original creditor by a collection agency. Here's the twist, the account that was purchased was written off by the original creditor about 6 years ago. The collection agency is reporting the account as a current account as of February 2007. How can I get them to remove this account? Since the statue of limitation in my state is 6 years and the account was already written off by the original creditor? I sent a certified letter requesting validation of the debt, but that information sent back was incomplete, the letter provided consisted of the original creditor name and an account number, there was no date of last activity or any other account history.

Any advise on how I should proceed?

P.S. I already requested debt validation by the credit bureau and it came back valid, but with no information to back up the validation.

Welcome.. CRAs don't validate debt. CRAs verify.. there is a difference. Debt validation is done with OC and CA only.  What is the DOFD with the OC?

Also, check out the Credit Scoring 101 thread.

I am not sure of the DFOD, the account has dropped off of all of my credit reports. So currently, there is no record of the account.

Re: Collection Agency reported debt before validation

I've heard of collection agencies purchasing old accounts. But, I didn't think that they were allowed to report the account on your credit report as current-atleast not until the debt was validated. In my situation the debt was reported BEFORE the collection agency contacted me to report that they had purchased the account from the original creditor.
